ya like he said . my personal mods a bolt it has a electrical switch and takes a 18650 battery . spares range from 5-12 dollars and best part , you can carry a couple batteries around one dies you have another. though with my battery at 3.7v i get a couple 3 days vaping before it dies a lil faster on my variable voltage mod. also mods is a lil more common for variable voltage either a button to press or using different voltage batteries.

I believe the term "MOD" is used to describe a PV that you can replace the battery in. However, there are certain devices that are probably considered mods that have non-replaceable batteries. Like the SD keyring, for example. Devices like attys, tanks, cartos, the Vivi Nova, etc... are devices that attach to mods and are not mods themselves. Mods refers to the device that powers such things.

ETA: If you were to ask this question, say, two or three years ago, the answer to "what is a mod" would probably be different. Then, the answer would probably refer to a DIY modification such as the Pyramid Tea Bag (PTB), or blue foam. Ecigs and their accessories of yesterday were very buggy, and often needed a bit of modification to perform better.

It used to be that a mod was a PV that you made yourself or was hand made in the US. Now it's just about any PV that has replaceable batteries. It still includes hand made or locally made ones as well. Now we have "mods" that are made in China.

I personally don't really feel like they are mods. Because there is no Modification done to make them. I always thought that this was what MOD was short for. I take all kinds of things and Modify them to accept a battery or two and a button/switch and accept an atomizer.

For instance a bolt or a Lava Tube or something like that that is mass produced in China. I can't see how they are a "MOD" They were mass produced to function just the way they do. Nothing at all wrong with them. I just think that MOD is the wrong word for them.

Actually to clarify - A mod is technically any ecig that has been made by hand by modified parts. Over time it came to include, like they said, Lavatubes, Provaris or any of the large battery APVs on the market, which are now referred to a "Tube Mods". I think it's a stupid name because mod means that you have modified something from its original manufactured intent, such as jailbreaking an iphone (which is a soft mod since no physical change occurs) or a modifying a flashlight to become a USB Passthrough (a hard mod). I absolutely hate it when people refer to the PVs or APVs as mods. Some things just need to go away, IM(not so humble)O. :) That's my :2c:

The correct usage, IMO, is saying stuff like "Yo, check out my 5v box mod". The box was not designed to be used as an ecigarette, so it's a mod. It was repurposed. You could theoretically call a Genesis atomizer a tank mod.

That's a pretty good summary of what I wanted to say but too tired to type it out so thank you :)
