"mod" is short for modified battery tube. It is a modified version of the original e-cig, which consisted of a cig-alike tube with a fully enclosed, rechargeable battery that could not be removed from the tube.

Mods come in all kinds of crazy configurations, shapes and sizes. Some have electronics and LED/OLED displays that provide info on remaining battery life, resistance of the atomizer, the voltage being delivered and the amount of energy being produced by the setup.

Others are nothing more than a mechanical system with no electronics whatsoever. You get a pretty tube, a battery and a button that completes the circuit.

They are a blast to shop for.

Check out this thread. You'll be amazed.

Simple box or tube with or without fire button. No in built protection, no smarts how much current is send to the head. Simple switch with a way to house a chosen battery with connect for the tank/delivery system.

You will have to add the smarts, protection on your own, hence MOD.

Cheers.

Help me out, what you describe sounds like a mech mod. Is that correct or no?

Mech mods have zero protection that is correct. VV or VW mods generally have a protection chip inside to limit the current draw to protect the device as well as the atomizer you are using. Lower resistance with higher voltage will result in tripping the protection. I used to use my Ego twist to test my rebuilds I would do on my VIVI Novas as well as my Protanks, that is until I started delving into lower ohm builds.

In general, a mod is any device that has replaceable batteries inside of it. Some will define it a little more narrowly to include only those devices without electronic regulation.

A mod is kind of like a hot rod. A few years ago, when only only cigarette sized electronic cigarettes were available, vapers quickly discovered that more power and longer battery life would make vaping more enjoyable. Many of us "modded" flashlights, pipes, battery boxes and even cell phones to provide the power that we wanted. Since then, manufacturers have begun turning out similar devices in large quantities, but whether they are still "mods" is an open debate. Is a new Mustang fresh off the showroom floor a hot rod, or is that term reserved for a one-of-a-kind creation from someone's garage?

I use an Ego-T. What is a MOD exactly, and what is the difference between a MOD and what I am using now?
An eGo battery is a class of battery especially made for e-cigarettes. The entire device is itself the battery with a power switch and a connector attached to apply the juice delivery attachment.

A mod can mean a container, box or tube form factor, which houses replaceable rechargeable batteries. This container protects the battery, has the power switch and the connector for the juice attachments. These are futher broken down into mechanical (no electrical regulator/processor or wiring) and regulated (uses boost circuits from a processor to adjust voltage higher or lower).

Thanks! This makes sense. I think that is what confused me because when I hear "MOD", it made me think of something you modified to your own liking. Then I saw where people were "ordering their mod today" and wondered...

Sounds a bit dangerous. Definitely not a confident enough vaper yet to go into that territory.
