What gives a harsh throat hit?

i ordered a sampler of 18mg dose, in varioius flavors from awesomevaper. but i find his stuff to be way harsh on my throat.

is this due to the nicotine dosage? or flavor? should i goto nic free?

In my experience nic levels seem to be the biggest determining factor for throat hit. Followed by the device used.

the 510 could be doing it too then. The 510 w/ manual does get pretty toasty and produces a pretty good throat hit. Try watering down some of your juice with either pg or vg (whichever you prefer/can get easier) and test that before ordering lower nic levels.

Throat hit has been my biggest problem. I'm down to 8mg and I still can't handle the throat hit. I gag/cough every time. Its rough. I'm currently using cartos made with pg. The pg/vg mix from johnsons creek has weak flavor but at 18mg I can handle the throat hit.

The johnsons I used with my 901. auto battery. Good vapor just not much flavor.

that sounds like it might be the pg.. have you tried JUST vg? I've heard of people just being PG sensitive and thinking it was "throat hit" rather than their throat going "OMFG GET THIS ***** OFF ME!"

yea reminds me of whenever I pass out some of my normal strength for my personal use juice with my loaner e-cig... 24MG is waaaaaaaay too much for most of the folks I've loaned my e-cig too. 18Mg is a far stretch down... usually noobs are best suited to 12-16MG some seasoned vapers I see using 8MG but this is no rule just for the most part... I remember one guy I got onto the e-cig recently vapes straight 36MG all day! first day of vaping he got 36MG and stuck with it, prefered it over the 24MG of mine he tried.

I started with 36 too (and some 24 that came with my first kit) but I much prefer the 36, vape it straight all day every day, sometimes I even vape 48 straight (not recommended for newbies.. ever lol) but for me it's not about the nic level so much as the killer throat hit that the higher nic produces. Whenever I let someone try my pv during a demo.. I ALWAYS tell them "I vape the highest strength juice available, you'll likely want something much weaker, the lower the nic, the less it kicks you in the troat" before I let them take a hit, then when it makes em cough they're not scared of the pv. lol they usually say "I gotta get one.... that's weaker" and we laugh and I give em sites and what busness cards I have on me

A while back there was a 'harsh batch' of dekang juice going around. Most vendors are out of it now but there may be some still around. Before you abandon anything, try some of the same nicotine strength from Janty, Freshsmoking or the Widow - who have a different formulation of the Joye juice (still dekang but again different formulation that didn't suffer from the harsh stuff from HG, eastmall and healthcabin (and others).

If you have PRD dates on the bottles from awesomevaper see if they are between late May to late August '09.

Has anyone got a throat hit from ECOpure? I get nada from their 36mg Kristal.

Even flavour can make a difference.
36mg TW red bullion is smoother and has less hit than their 18mg Cherry

The best hit I have had so far is Heavens Gifts 18mg marlboro, TW's 18mg Cherry and liberty flight 24mg Camel

I suggest the 510 with megabattery, polyfill, straw mod and 24 mg juice.

I use a combo of Camel, Tobacco and RY4. My mix is 60/20/20. You could mix it to your own taste.

And if this ain't good enough, try PTB's.

I got such little hit from Ecopure that I was stunned to see vapor exit my mouth. When I inhaled, I literally thought the atty was dry or my batts were dead -- until I saw massive vapor. Then I saw an Ecopure review here on ECF where the reviewer gave Ecopure a 9 or 10 on TH. That told me to chuck that reviewer's ratings out the window. LOL

Lots of vapor and no TH annoys the heck outta me. Less than 16mg of nic doesn't cut it for me -- except for the rare times that I vape mint/menthol.

I absolutely love the 18mg throat hit, but it's just way too much nicotine. I'm wanting low nic AND the big kick. I guess it'll have to be 8mg at 6v or something for me.

I was given the best tip ever when it came to throat hit. When I first started using the e-cig, I was trying to smoke it like an analog. Inhale all of the vapor. That just about killed me, then I was told to think of it a bit like a hookah or a cigar. Inhale a good slow long drag, then let the vapor slowly disperse from your mouth, and only fully inhale the last bit, or however much gives you the desired throat hit. It still allows for a good amount of nicotine to be absorbed, but doesn't kill you.

This is perhaps beating a dead horse by a newbie here but I've noticed something that I'm still trying to get my head around.

I'm actually after that massive throat hit, especially when accompanied with a good cuppa tea in the morning. I could also care less for the nic though. Unfortunately none of the juices I've tried so far give me the same bang as my bad old cancer sticks BUT when I take a drag holding the e-cig slightly sideways, letting a bit of air through at the same time, the hit is much stronger than when I drag like on a real cig, ie. lips completely surrounding the cartridge. Any clue what's happening there?

Otherwise, taking shorter drags producing less vapour should also reduce the hit considerably.

Pick your self up some heritage vegetable glycerin and add one drop of distilled water it will cool down the throat hit.

NO mix it in the bottle, start with 6-8 drops VG to one drop water, and work your way up till you are happy with it, and don't forget to shake up the bottle, so it mixes up well.
