I know that there's a misconception that the propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin somehow magically turn into water vapor when you vape an ecig, but I know that's not how it works. What chemicals actually make up the vapor? Is it just gaseous forms of pg/vg/nic/flavoring or whatever or does the heat break them down at all into some other molecules? And how do these impact the lungs/rest of the body?

Been vaping for a month or two now (a lot more often as of late) and recently quit the analogs (2 weeks today :D)... I'm sure these are much healthier, but still I'd like to know what I'm inhaling into my lungs when I'm puffing on my vape most of the day. Thanks! Sorry if I come across as ignorant or uninformed, just trying to find out the facts

What is inhaled from the vaporizer is what is exhaled from the lungs. There is no change in the molecular structure of the compounds. The heat from the coils is not high enough to break them down either. However, since both PG and VG are hygroscopic, they will attract moisture, so there is water in exhaled vapor that comes from your body.

The biggest concern with inhaling vapor is actually the compounds that make up some of the flavorings. Diacetyl acetyl propionyl, acetoin, and diketones are the most questionable of these. There are many threads on teh subject, but here is one discussion that you might find useful: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...s-may-contain-diacetyl-there-really-many.html

Here are a few studies/articles that might help answer some questions:

This right here. Look up the MSDS of the various ingredients. The temperatures required to break them down is much higher than the temperatures reached by an e-cigarette coil.
