    I'm confused because you said the two choices were 3.7V and 4.2V earlier. That 4.2V selection is definitely not a nominal voltage, it's a charging voltage.
    No, I was confused. Got out the instructions, the 4.2 is a charging voltage.
    Says it's compatible with a nominal 3.7v and 3.8v Li-ion
    Charging outputs 4.35v, 4.2v, 3.7v, 1.48v
    Not sure the OP even has a Nitecore i2 ?
    Back to lurkin and learnin....

    Yes, I should have said use the 3.7v setting, not the 3.8v setting.
    The i2 should auto detect the 18650 as a 3.7v, but be can manually set to 3.8, which would overcharge past 4.2 and damage the battery.
    Are you sure those aren't 3.7 and 3.2? 3.2 would be for LiFePo batteries.
