What is the best reason for going to RTAs/RDAs?

Being new to the vaping I have many questions...many!
Among those questions is the question of what is the best reason to get into RBAs?
I am not vaping at this time buy I have set my wife up with a HANA DNA 30 Clone with a GINITANK MEGA and she's a happy camper. I just today went to my local B&M to pick up some juice and came home with a Vision Spinner 1300 MA battery and a GINI MINI TANK for her to take with her when shes out and about but not wanting to handle the HANA box....I thin it will work well for her!

Now...its starts to get a little more complicated as I am going to get in as well so with the two of us going at it...I feel the coil usage will increase and at about $2.50/3.00 a pop....I am thinking of getting RBAs.

I would like to get a RDA only for trying new DYI juices that I am going to be mixing in the near future. Dripper for that purpose only...
I want tanks for the wife and I but is it the cost savings of rebuilds, the fun of rebuilding, better vaps or all and some other benefits.
I am kinda geeky and love tinkering and have an electronics so its nothing new and I have my neighbor friend who works at the local vap shop that has offered to help me with the process of getting set up and the coil building so I'm really hyped about this.

I switched to RBAs because I was tired of purchasing disposable cartridges (searching online for the best prices and hoping to find my brand and resistance in stock) and I wanted a better quality vape. I love that wick and wire is cheap and easily sourced, I like being able to build coils to my preference and use different types of wicks, and the quality of my vaping is outstanding and beats any disposable system hands down. I've done enough builds that it comes second nature to me and I'm never going back to a disposable system.

To me, a rta is just an advanced version of a clearo and a rda is an advanced verizion of a carto. Rebuildables have better flavor, vapor production, and air flow in my opinion. The biggest advantage is probably that you build your own coils, this not only saves you money, but gives you an endless number of options regarding the type of coil, what gauge wire, the diameter of the coil, etc. which can all add some different to your vape experience. You can rebuild clearos like the ones made by kangertech, but you are limited as far as options go. The tiny parts in those clearos will only last for so long, as well, especially the rubber parts. I rebuilt a few evods and mini protanks with some success, but those rubber gromets were the downfall for me, if you are not careful, your coil will heat up the rubber and you'll get a nasty burnt rubber taste, which nobody wants.

This is the primary reason for me. I bought a bag of organic cotton balls and 100' of 30 gauge kanthal for less than the price of a 5 pack of kangertech BDC's back in may. Its A LOT cheaper to make your own coils. Also being able to make it exactly where you want. Mainly because RDA's and RTA's provide much better flavor than most clearomizers (provided they are built correctly).

I was a carto tank gal until I discovered Kayfun Lite Plus by Ehpro. They are 30 bucks and I can tighten the airflow to mimic that of a carto tank. I got tired of constantly replacing cartomizers and with the Kayfuns all I need is a roll of Kantal and a bag of cotton.

I got a 100 foot roll of the Kanthal off Ebay for 6 bucks and some Japanese organic cotton pads for 8 dollars of Amazon. So for 14 dollars I have enough supplies to last me at least a couple of years.

I would suggest getting a Igo L dripper to practice on. This is how I learned to rebuild. I still use it because its the only dripper I have found that doesn't leak on me.

Me I almost quit vaping with kanger t3s had ebuf gurgling and drinking juice bought a protank decided to get nautilus and fell in love with vaping.bot wanting to buy coils all the time got a clone kayfun messed with it and was ok.found out it had a dripper mode and never looked back the flavor man the flavor.other guys can chase all the clouds they want but I want flavor!

Cheaper up keep, better flavor, denser vape which I find more satisfying, easy to change flavors, ability to tweak to find your sweet spot... What's not to like about rebuilding?

I went to it because the bvc in my nautilus is stupid expensive to replace every week or less and the guy at the b&m here taught me how to build on my orchid v2. Wire was like 6 bucks and japanese cotton 10 bucks... oh and it makes insane flavor production with huge clouds. .7 ohm coils powered at 20.7 watts. It is a pain in the backside to get right, but once you do you wont want to go back.

NETS, nets and more nets....seriously I do mostly DIY but I had some great nets ( naturally extracted tobaccos) that I just couldn't enjoy with clearomizers, they gunked up in record time and tasted like vaping turpentine.

Not so with my RDAs, and even when the flavor does start to mute it's a cinch to replace the wick and dry burn the coil and I'm back in bidnez.

Big money saver on buying crappy coils too!

Thanks a bunch for the response and they are much as I expected with a mix of good reasons to get into the rebuilds....

I'm sure there is a ton of threads on what and where to find the best to start with as far as tanks, wire and cotton and such.

I am seeing the Kayfun Lite I believe it is...is mentioned a lot as a good one to start with....but I'm sure I'll find every thing I need to know in the next week or so!!

For me, the reason I ordered a mech and am looking into some local RDA's to play with would be:

1) I love to tinker.
2) In my city Aspire coils are $4/each. I can buy a LOT of wick/wire for the price of a single coil, let alone a 5 pack. Plus they limit me to approximately 1.8-ish ohm.
3) Not into cloud chasing but HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO flavour.
4) Gives me a great reason to start dropping my nicotine levels from 21mg to 3-6mg so I don't drop dead when dripping.
5) Sure the iStick and Nautilus I have are pretty sharp, a mechanical mod is just plain GORGEOUS to me.
6) I can have coils from 1.0 ohm upwards, only Kanger have 1.0-1.8 ohm coils (Locally) and I can't stand the taste of any Kanger coil no matter what voltage or wattage settings I have.
7) Dripping I can switch flavours on the fly easier than draining a tank, or keeping a stock of tanks.

I carried 3 different ego/clearomizer setups every day because I knew 1 (or more) would flood out and be unusable at some point until I got home. Just look at all the threads here about people with clearomizer issues.

Now I carry 2 Kayfuns on mechanical mods. I carry 2 just to be able to switch between the 2 flavors of juice I like. I never have any troubles and tear them down every 2 weeks for a cleaning and re-wick with cotton. As far as cost goes, I bought a 4 dollar box of cotton and some wire back in February and probably have enough to last me till 2019 lol. I did buy 8 bucks worth of Chaddos cotton last June and I'm probably half way through that...

The best part is the tinkering though. I've found that the one flavor I like (a very strong, natural menthol) vapes best on a 1.2 ohm build so the one Kayfun is dedicated to that. That works out to be a 14 watt vape that tapers off to about 12 watts before I change batteries.

The other Kayfun is dedicated to Castle Long and tastes best on a 1.4 ohm build. That will start out at just over 12 watts and I'll switch batteries when it gets down to about 10 watts.

I also have 2 drippers and a Gennie tank but they sit on my desk at home. I mainly have them for trying new flavors and playing with different build ideas. It's a tinkerers delight...

best reason to get one is that an rda is superior to any tank-based atty.

best reason not to get one is that you will become so preoccupied with the glorious delectable flavors and massive vapor production that you get from an rda that you will no longer enjoy using your other devices. And you may even start obsessively collecting and building various rdas and mechanical mods, which can cost a decent amount of money.
