About 1ml (1gram) for a 35mm (Standard) cartomizer
About 1.5ml (1.5gram) for a 45mm (XL) cartomizer

If you have a digital scale you can zero it out with an empty brand-new carto with a half round toothpick blocking the center tube and add liquid accordingly. Give it about 15 minutes to soak in

Your mileage may vary depending on brand and density of filler.

+1 for digital scales. Scales that are accurate to 0.1 gm are quite cheap (china, of course, see Ebay US item #181119634576) and are a great addition to any DIY lab if you are that way inclined, since you can do recipes to w/w% instead of v/v%. If you know the weight of the cartridge empty, you can also weigh it and find out how much is still in it (If it's vaping dry, is it because there's nothing in it, or is it because there's a problem with the coil or wick?)

If you know the ideal weight of a cartridge filled, then you can top them off before leaving home and be sure you have enough vapetime to stay happy.

I do it this way. What's not absorbed can be sucked back into the bottle by squeezing it to create a vacuum and then using it to suck up the excess from the top of the carto. You quickly learn how much to put into the carto cap. I put the carto into the end cap and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Slush on the top will soak in and generally nothing is left in the cap. It's a good way to get good saturation of the filler.

After the initial fill, I drip in a few drops as needed until the top of the filler starts to look a little slushy.

Uh oh, I'm doing it wrong. I fill it until it looks a little slushy. I pull the tip off and check periodically while I'm vaping and when it starts to look dry I add more drops. I hope there isn't a test later, I was absent when this was covered.

There's a wrong way?

If it's working for you and you have no problems, then it isn't broke.

Hi All,

On the net it seems like every article has an opinion on how much e-juice to use when refilling a carto. It can be a pretty wide difference
from drops to a bit over 1ml. I'm confident that I'll finally get the right answer from the experts here on ECF.
Thanks for being here for us nube's

Thanks everyone for your help with this. I don't have any blank cartos so I'll be using the slush look for now.

Just a warning--slush look can be deceiving, especially when you're filling a tight-packed carto, like Boge, for the first time! Since this obviously in not the case ATM, you should be OK. When you're just topping off, the juice will flow down through the filler easily. But when you gets blanks, you have to make sure that you get 1 ml in and that your eliquid fully saturates the filler. I've seen cartos looking very slushy on top, even overflowing, while still bone dry on the bottom.

Good luck.

After the initial fill, I drip in a few drops as needed until the top of the filler starts to look a little slushy.

There are basically three methods that I use, depending on the cartomizer.

1) Syringe and needle, I use 18g sharp needle. Especially effective with Boge cartos, as those tend to be very tightly woven and are generally a PITA to fill properly the first time. The needle puts your juice exactly where it needs to go and the syringe lets you measure the amount of juice accurately. The drawbacks? It's work and not everyone owns a syringe.

Other options: an oiler bottle

or dripper caps:

Dripper Caps

2) Condom method, as shown in Phil's video. Works well with Boge cartos, but I find it messy--lots of wiping afterwards.

3) Dripping!!!! The best and easiest for your cartos (and other non-Boge cartos wit loose filler). Just tilt and slowly turn your cartomizer as you drip down the walls into the filler, just like pouring beer. :) Don't worry too much about the center tube; a little juice in there will prime the coil--just blow out the excess.
