What is the purpose of adapters like an 808 to 510??? They don't seem to work!

Hi everyone! I bought an 808 to 510 adapter for me and a 510 to 808 adapter for my stepmom so we could try each other's cartos but we both found them unusable because the hole in the center of them is so tiny it's almost impossible to get any vapor through them. What are adapters for if not to attach to your battery and be able to use a different type of cartomizer or atomizer? Am I using them for the wrong purpose? Any advice or info. is appreciated! :) thank you!

This statement is a little confusing to me. The adapter goes between the battery and atomizer. Your atty/carto will still take in air the same way it did on a battery of the same native threading (all adapters have allowances for this air flow as part of their design by necessity). I suppose some adapters may slightly inhibit air flow, but it shouldn't be a dramatic difference

Can you post a photo? A close up of the adapter in place (PV fully assembled) and a shot of the adapter by itself would be good, this way we can maybe see what your problem is (faulty adapter or other issue)

Killjoy1 - I'm sorry I can't take a close-up picture of my pv with the adapter and cartomizer attached but I don't have a camera and my dad has both adapters right now anyway. The way I did it was attach the adapter to the battery and then the cartomizer to the adapter. Now I know why my question didn't make sense. I was thinking that you had to suck in air through the little hole in the adapter. But I guess that's not right? All the adapter does is enable you to use a different threaded cartomizer with your battery? No air flows through it? I don't think I understand what adapters do or how they work. I don't know why both adapters gave us so much trouble! We used good cartos too. Boge and V4L. We hadn't tried a V4L carto before but the Boge usually give a wonderful easy vaporful draw! Here is a picture of one of the adapters I bought. It's a 901/808D to 510 adapter. thumbnail.asp.jpg
Goldenkobold - I think I made that mistake because as I mentioned above one of the adapters I got was 901/808D!!! Thank you for the info!!!

Nope, air doesn't need to go through the adapter, itself. Some air can flow through that way, depending on how air-tight the connection is to the battery, but the bulk of the air flow will be at the 510 end of that adapter. See those little crenellations (cut outs) around the edge on the 510 side? These are to prevent the adapter from sealing air-tight against the carto, so that air can still get in via the small holes on the sides of the carto's connector (you can find these holes right above the threading on the carto's connector)

Hope that makes sense :) My brain is in low gear this evening

The only time the hole in the center of an adapter comes into play is when you use automatic batteries, then there has to be a path for the vacuum to reach the switch in the battery. This hole is not in the path of incoming air, though, which enters the atomizer through one or two holes just above the threads of a 510 or a hole in the side of the atomizer itself for a 901.

The only adapter I've used is an 801 to 510 adapter. I used that one to adapt my Little Dwarf 3.0 ohm dripper atty to my Madvapes vv box mod. I didn't have any trouble drawing on it that way.

I didn't notice if you might have had an eGo or Riva type battery in there somewhere. The cone can cause hard draw sometimes and you have to loosen it slightly to get free air to the atty. That's especially applicable if you have an atty that is a tight fit for the cone. I ream those out just a hair at the small end to loosen them up. Just a thought.

spider362 - Thank you for the details!! I appreciate it!!! :)

DaveP - I don't have an eGo or Riva. I have a Volt and I use cartomizers. I have no idea why we've had so much trouble with out adapters. I'm going to try attaching the adapters to the cartomizers first before attaching the adapters to the batteries like Goldenkobold suggested. And yes, expecting the unexpected makes the unexpected the expected! :)
