What is this "atomizer low" message I'm getting?

I've been away from the community for a long time, happily vaping away on my old gear but over the weekend I ordered two istick tc40w ecigs (one for me, one for my wife) and both have given us "atomizer low" messages, I swapped out the spare that came in mine and it worked fine for about an hour but now it's giving me the same message.

I took the one of my wife's out and put it back in and now it's apparently working fine. I'm too old for this nonsense, can someone tell me what's going wrong?

The "Low Atty" is indicating that the measured coil resistance is considered unsafe/under designed operational limits for your device.

What coils were giving you this problem? Kanthal, Ni200, Ti? Your coils or OCC?

What ohms?

Uh... they're the things that came in the box, lol. I have no idea what you're talking about... the user manual says it's a GS-Tank Atomizer. Eleaf seems to be the brand.

what's the old gear you've been vaping away on for years?
because if you're used to ego connectors, you might have forgotten that the 510 interface tends to give problems if you tighten too much.

The istick tc40w runs in two modes, VW (variable wattage) and TC (temperature control). From the specs on the Discount Vapers website I get the following:

Rated resistance range: 0.05-1ohm (TC mode), 0.15-3.5ohm (VW mode)

The heads that come with the GS-Tank are 0.15 ohm using nickel wire. The nickel is required for the TC to function. If you are in VW mode, 0.15 ohms will be right at the lower resistance limit the mod can handle and may well be why it is giving you the error message sometimes.

OK, yeah I've been using egos since they first appeared. Don't remember having problems with my 510s like this but that seems to be what's going on now.

Take the atty off and put it back on. When it says "new coil up same down" again hit the power up button. That lets it know to set and remember the resistance of the atty. The coil needs to be at room temperature when you do this, so if you have been vaping it in the last five minutes give it five before you do it.

OK thanks! I never would have figured that out, I'm still not sure I understand it either heh but I think I can follow the instructions. I think I may have a lot of catching up to do on how far the tech has come in the last several years.

hmmm, now it just says "temperature protection" when I try that.

Once you have it running in TC mode, you will need to set a temperature. I suggest you try 470 deg F to start with. After that set the power (watts) to control your vape.

The temperature you set is the coil temperature at which the mod will lower the watts to avoid the coil overheating and causing a burnt hit.

Yes, both the tech and the general quality of the latest products on the market have greatly improved. And I started vaping in 2012, not 2009. I know what was out there in 2009 was pretty limited.
