Me and my partner are heading to San Francisco from the uk in June, I have been looking online at what the laws are there regarding vaping. Problem is I don't know how up to date it is with everything changing at the moment. I don't know much about the laws in the US to be honest, anyone point me in the right direction?

California just raised the legal smoking age to 21. You must be 21 to buy any tobacco product. California also now classifies ecigs as a tobacco product, and thus subject to the same laws and regulations as tobacco. Furthermore, California will now not only be able to regulate ecig sales, but also regulate the manufacturing of ecig products such as mods and juices. They've also given cities within California the ability to add on their own taxes on to the state taxes that will be applied to ecig products.

This is just another example of why I will never live in California. I was considering taking a vacation there next year, but now that looks unlikely. Think I'll take the family back to Colorado or maybe go to Yellowstone instead.

None of it is in effect or can be put into effect until the bills pass a final senate vote then be signed by the Governor.
Military personnel are exempt from the age restrictions, will be able to buy at age 18.

It is all in the first link to the story in second response to this thread.
Then the very same source of the exact same story is again posted in the ninth response to the thread.

Lack of reading comprehension is a real problem it seems.

And do you think Governor Moonbeam and his insatiable love for big government and tax increases is going to refuse to sign this bill that comes from his own political supporters and will give him another source of tax revenue without having to increase income or property taxes?

Be real. The bill passed it's largest hurdle. With this Democrat sponsored bill heading to the Senate where the Democrats have a 65% majority, getting the Senate vote and Governor's signature is just a formality at this point.

While I hope it is not put into effect, do you really think it won't be knowing the country we live in? Military personnel are exempt from the age restrictions but this brings up something else.

It's okay for those who are willing to die for their country at age 18 to buy these substances but no others of that same age? Why will it be prohibited to 18-20 year olds, maturity of their decisions? If they feel that 18 year old teenagers don't have the maturity to buy these products, then how could they possibly be allowed to come to the decision that they are ready to die for their country? Apparently making that said decision results in a magical increase of maturity.

It is completely inequitable.

Unfortunately, no. Nobody actually knows. Things are in a state of flux. Right now, in most places, the worst restrictions on vaping is it is relegated to smoking areas. But that is subject to change without notice, and may occur between the time you board in Merry Olde and land in San Fran.

I keep waiting for the ACLU or somebody to file a class action suit on behalf of 18 through 20 year olds under Fourteenth amendment Equal Protection. If you are old enough to vote and contract a marriage and endure military service, it seems to me, you ought to be old enough to decide if you want a beer or a vape as well.

I'm really hoping to get to a few vape shops over there and see what's what :)
Would just be nice to know where I stand! So vaping in public is still legal right?

In most places yes. So far, at the very least, any place you can smoke, you can also vape. In other locations, you can vape anywhere.

Well that's OK then :) I'm already dreading the thought of no vape for 11 hours on the flight! Never mind arriving and still not being able to vape!

Speaking of which, today the FAA officially banned the use of ecigs on all flights in or to the US. Foreign airlines flying to the US have to follow the ban as well as all domestic airlines.
