So I just bought a new setup after having no vape for a few days (I've been smoking cigs in the meantime). New batteries, tank (mesh pro quad coils), and batteries.

I took one hit (108 watts, I realize its a bit hot for some people but I'm usually used to it) and completely lost my breath. I was literally GASPING for air in between coughing for about 30-40 seconds while I was driving, and it terrified me. I was barely able to get any air in for what seemed like an eternity and felt like I was actually going to die. I've been vaping for years and never experienced something like this.

Was it the heat? the abstaining from vaping? It just seemed EXTREME for it to be something like that. Has anyone else experienced this before? I'm afraid to touch the vape now...

i have asthma so sometimes it does happen to me when I'm doing a lot of dl hits (before about a year ago, I couldn't even do dl)
you probably tried to take a drag like you do off of cigarettes and got choked....vaping isn't quite like smoking ;)

Haha, thanks for the tip ;). I actually thought maybe that could be it too. I thought I was going to die, was unbearable. I REALLY dont want that to happen again.

Did you properly prime the head & allow it to sit in the full tank for a while?
If not, zapping a new head with 108 watts is a very good way to burn wicking / you probably inhaled burnt wicking material.

Yeah I made sure it was super primed and waited about 7 minutes before even taking a hit.

Breaking in a coil is as important as priming it. Never nerver start off a new coil with 108 watts. Should have started around 50 or so and work yer way up in increments. Chances are good that you burnt the wicking. Youll know if you did when you vape it. It will taste like crap.

Great Scott man!!!

I puffed on a BO for the first time while entering a curve one day. Now I didn't gasp for air like you did, but I learned going from a 6ml 70% vg sauce to a 50ml 50/50 sauce was a helluva difference.

Suddenly cars were whizzing past and Mrs States says "why you driving so slow?" I replied "I'm so high right now". I passed her the BO saying "you try it". She took one puff and says "good gosh, why are you driving so fast?" lol.

Um letting a coil sit for 7 minutes is NOT priming it.

What is your coil even rated for, wattage wise? (It's printed in tiny letters on the side of the coil.) Also, start with some low slow inhales with NO power at all, then slowwwwllly work your way up in 5 watt increments until you reach a satisfactory vape.

108 watts is just so... Random? I'm guessing you overdid the wattage coupled with absolutely NO priming.

I am a MTL vaper so I am a bit prejudicial on the wattage stuff and starting low but rest easy. It's not the VAPE you need to fear. Clean out the tank discard ALL the eliquid, discard the coil, and start over. Don't argue or you will suffer. (I mean on trying the coil again keeping the juice, etc.)

This was 100% user error, so the good news is you have the power to stop dry hits, Smokey the Bear or whomever says.
