Oh I wasn't going to quit. At least not right away. I wanted to cut down. I was such a hard core smoker that I couldn't even do that anymore. My hubby had quit and I didn't want to smoke as much at home around him anymore so I thought an e-cig would give me the satisfaction of smoking without the smoke to bother him. I very quickly discovered I didn't want to smoke analogs at all. Vapeing was so satisfying for me that I tossed the Analogs.

So I guess it was to help someone else quit and the enjoyment I get from vapeing.

Cost of a pack or more of cigarettes a day.
Having to go outside to smoke at home and feeling bad when I couldn't resist lighting one in the car with my kids in the backseat breathing in the second hand smoke.
Sick of coughing everyday.
Starting to feel more and more out of breath.
Being a slave to "man, I'm almost out. I don't feel like going but I have to make a run to get another few packs."

It's definitely health for me. I realize that smoking for me is slow suicide. I started when I was sixteen, and my grandfather was dying of lung cancer. I was suicidal at that time and honestly did not want to grow old in this culture. A part of me still doesn't which is one of the reasons I think it has been difficult for me to quit. A lot of things have changed for me since I started smoking and now I want to take care of my body and minimize the harmful things I put into it.

Paying an insane amount of cig taxes, while being treated like a 2nd-class citizen. The health factors, while very important, were secondary in my decision to quit analogs. After many attempts with patches and gum, the E-cig was just the miracle that finally made this happen.

It ain't much, but I'm doing my part to "Starve the Beast"

For me ...it was my kids. I'd stopped smoking for 2 years and they were so proud of me, but then I started back up again and never told them. I'd been a closet smoker for a few years and I hated all the sneaking around and lying about smoking. My bf also wanted to quit for both health reasons and because they were getting ready to ban cloves which is all he smoked. So we made the switch together.

I knew it was going to go one of two ways:

either:
I would stop smelling bad. Plus, smokers are perceived differently; less educated, less mature, all that bs.

or:
I would prove once and for all that literally nothing will work to make me quit smoking, so I can finally stop trying to quit and relax and face my fate.

Wow, some good stuff here. You know as I have been reading the number of different threads in this forum I noticed many members listing how long and how many analogs they have avoided. What I did not see was the reasons for the transition from analog to e-cigs.

Now that we have a few replies I sense as I read them that people are enjoying being able to state in writing what the motivators were for their transitions.

With that said keep expressing yourself it feels good and enlightens others. Thanks

What he said plus my husband offered to buy me what ever kit and supplies I wanted.
He's never smoked.

I've known I should stop for a long time. My mom died of emphysema even though she stopped smoking 5 years before. My sister had a small heart attack and after that she and my other 2 sisters quit cold turkey. Still I kept smoking. But I heard someone in my World of Warcraft guild was having good luck with ecigs so I checked them out because any kind of continuing to "smoke" without the danger was worth trying.

And I am actually lowering my nicotine on ecigs. And it's a heck of a lot easier than with cigarettes. I had gotten down to Capri Ultralights with cigarettes but when the price got to $64 per carton for those and I wasn't get paid regularly, I could no longer afford them and had to go back up to cheap lights with 2x the nicotine and I smoked them for the last 2 years of smoking.

Let's see... I've wanted to quit cigs for a long time but only had the determination to give quitting a serious try every 18 months to two years. (Pretty standard from what I hear.) A few years ago, I tried one and liked it... my best friend and my landlord both loved it... but soon decided it was too expensive and unreliable.

What brought me back a few months ago was a friend who showed me that good equipment was both reliable and affordable. What's keeping me here was finding out that even the best mods are cheap compared to cigs.
