hello. i have not completely quit yet. but i am working on it! i decided to start vaping and to quit smoking bc ....my grandmother died from complications of alcholism and smoking, my son has asthma, i don't wanna die, my best friend has COPD, and i have 3 family members who have completely quit smoking using ecigs. i have smoked for almost 20 years and i am only 31. i have smoked marlboro full flavor 100's since i was a kid. and actually i started smoking camel nonfiltereds when i was a kid then changed to marlboro 100's a short time later. and as much as i LOVE my cigarrettes.. i need to give them up... so.. vaping it is.. me and the hubby are trying together! we both slipped up bad today as far as cigarrettes go.. but tomorrow is a new day and i have already cut the cigs by half.. was smoking at least a pack a day...down to 10 or less.. but i was hoping to only smoke a few cigs today but had a rough day and caught myself smoking a little more..so starting a new day tomorrow! hoping to be only vaping very soon.. after that i don't know if i will continue vaping or if i will taper that off too.. i really like it so far.. so it may become the new obsession.. even if i taper off the nicotine level:)

Let's see... Dad, Grandfather, Grandmother, Aunt, Stepfather all dying of heart disease or cancer, all heavy smokers...

That had me concerned, but still I couldn't quit. One morning I woke up hacking again, so hard I started to wretch like I had dry heaves. Wasn't the first time, but after 26 years on cigarettes, it was becoming more frequent, and reminding me more and more of hearing my Grandmother do the same thing in the mornings (did I mention that she got to live with the wonderful gift of emphysema for 10 years before the cancer ate her away?).

I knew I had to do something, or they were going to kill me in the not too distant future, and that just seemed so sad for a 43-year-old man. So, although I may have gotten taken on the price of my first rip-off supermini, it was the best $120 I ever had stolen from me... lol... because after the third drag, I thought, "wow, this might actually work". After the third day, I gave my last analog to a guy I worked with (who subsequently got a Riva & now uses a box mod I built him). I'm so glad I found ECF, got my first "real" ecig (510 w/PCC from Cignot) about a week later, and found this hobby/lifesaver. Next in my sights: P10 from SuperT.

Saving money? Sometimes. Breaking even at least. But I'm having fun, feeling 1,000% better in every way, and no longer killing myself. Can't put a price on that.

Never thought I could quit, though the following weighed on me...
Traveling salesman - hours of driving and the smell of smoke makes you an instant 'loser'.
50 years old and have a 3 year old.
Lying to everyone about smoking or quantity (mom, doctors, insurance)
Attending funerals of smokers.
Only having friends that are smokers.
As said before - hotels, rental cars, airplanes, and restaurants.

I went to my smokeshop to buy my pound of tobacco and tubes and he was selling e-cigs. Made a mental note of the offering.
Next time (2 weeks later) bought the e-cigs. One drag told me "I can do this".
Haven't been back to the smokeshop. That was 6 weeks ago.

These things are friggin' great.

In my case, I switched to vaping as an experiment. I heard it was cheaper overall (jury is still out on that), and I knew I was liking smoking less and less after 25 years of it. The expense, breathing problems, high blood pressure and cancer risks were weighing heavily on me, and having an 11 year old daughter from whom I was constantly hiding my habit made it stupid to continue. Having tried several times to quit cold turkey, patches, drugs I went to vaping more than 3 months ago and have never looked back. I can breathe again and I'm not as prone to simple exhaustion. Most successful experiment ever.

Health reasons. I started having chest pains, difficulty breathing, and even panic attacks at night. Ever since my last analog 8 days ago, I've never experienced those terrible feelings anymore. I now have the energy to wake up at the crack of dawn and hit the gym. My life has changed dramatically in such a short time and I want thank the creators of this forum and everyone who takes the time to educate noobs like me. As I learn more and more every day, I hope to do the same and educate others.

Your story is exactly what happen to me. I went into my smoke shop to buy some flint for my lighter and the owner was showing a young lady some kits that they sell and demonstrating how the cigarette work with one that he owned. He then began to tell her the price of the kit which looked very much like a 901 or 510 ($180). The concept appealed to me but not the price for something I was not sure I would like or use. So off to the internet to do my research and began my smoke-less life. That was one month ago and I now own a 510 and an ego T.

I quit smoking 3 years ago after 8 years of it. Then 1 year ago I started up again and while I was disgusted with myself, I was hooked.

I actually enjoy the act, and nicotine itself, but I needed a way out of feeling like crap every morning, and smelling even worse. Not to mention the possible long-term effects.

I had seen something on "Daily Planet" about e-cigs awhile back and recently started looking into it.

I am now enjoying an eGo-T tank system, and can never imagine going back.

I made the switch mainly for health reasons. More than 28 yrs of heavy smoking was really starting to catch up with me. I had shortness of breath, chest pains, horrible coughing, and constant heartburn. There was also the fact that I loved the act of smoking and had absolutely no determination to quit my habit.

It was kind of a last ditch effort with e-cigs to see if they could at least help me cut back. I'm still amazed that I was able to give up smoking. I am just as compulsive about vaping as I was with smoking, but I don't ever feel the least bit guilty about it.

Definitely to stop poisoning myself by smoking tobacco. Then there is the social stigma of smoking tobacco. Some companies now charge smokers additional health insurance fees -- which I found to be outrageous - I mean when will they start weighing people and charging for being overweight? Or alcoholics? It seems tacky to use addicted people to pay for insurance costs. I mean their profits are going up. sheesh don't get me going.

A year ago I saw a commercial for the e-cig, it took me three months to finally start reviewing them. So for the last seven months I've been researching them and am finally ready to go with a Reo Grand. I had to switch brands about a 1 1/2 ago from camel lights to GPC lights because of a bad cough I started to have. I did research and finally learned what changed; FSC or Fire Safety Paper. I've been smoking them ever since and can no longer breath. My wife and kids are constantly telling me I'm gonna die when I'm 50 and they HATE the smell of them. The mucus I cough up is now yellow (but not the same yellow as before the FSP) its different. Finally, I had to start using a steroid with my nebulizer in these last 2 months just to get out of bed. I used to be in track and ran Grandmas Marathon in Duluth, MN twice when I was 16-17 yrs old. I was actually going to try for a scholarship at some college and run for a track team, but that was all over when I picked up the 4000 chemicals and got hooked. I HATE big tobacco and if I never see another cigarette again by switching to vaping I'll throw the party of a lifetime at my place. ;)

Thanks to everyone who shared here, its nice to see success stories and also helping to build my confidence to start vaping. :)

My kit arrived last evening. I have had 3 analogs since (there's a learning curve to the e-cigs....) but that is instead of 20 or so I would have had. Here's to it being less today.

Started smoking at 14. At 15, my grandfather died of emphysema and congestive heart failure from smoking. He was 72. Said I'd quit. Didn't.

At 22, my grandmother died from lung cancer. She was 73. Said I'd quit smoking. Didn't.

At 40, my uncle died due to complications from high blood pressure. Caused by smoking they think. He was 64. Said I'd quit. Didn't....

At 42, my mother died from the same issues. She was 61. Said I'd quit. Didn't.

At 43, my father died from lung cancer. He was 74. For his 70th birthday, he rode his bicycle through Death Valley. He was the healthiest person I know, with the exception of smoking.

When he was diagnosed (one month before he died), I promised him I would quit. He said "Good luck with that." Tried the patch (again), Chantix (again), yada yada yada.

I think vaping is the answer. See Dad, I am doing it. (As a take a pull from my strawberry flavor from VTVapors, and am not miserable or freaking out....)
