I stopped smoking in early February because I felt my health was deteriorating rapidly from smoking. I rolled my own smokes and smoked about 20 a day. So I got used to a lot of nicotine. But I didn't feel well.

When I did quit, I knew it was for good. This did not fare well with my system. I crashed, big time. I couldn't concentrate at work. I was miserable all the time. I didn't crave smokes but I did crave nicotine. As time went on, there seemed to be no improvement. Apparently, I had traded my mental health for physical health. Both are vital.

I ate tons of nicorette lozenges. They did little or nothing for me. Then, a post on reddit by someone who had just quit smoking caught my eye. A responder to that post had a detailed description of e-cigs along with links to an ego-t kit along with accoutrements (extra attys, tanks, batteries, juice) needed to get started. I followed his instructions. 3 days later, I had an ego-t in my hand. I quickly assembled it, with shaky hands. It puffed "smoke" (the battery had some charge to it.)

I inhaled and almost immediately all the heebie-jeebie bad stuff went away. Can this be? I took another hit. I felt even better. How had I missed these devices? I think the main thing was I had heard of them but didn't really believe they worked or something.

That was 3 weeks ago. I now have my pv the way I like it, lots of good juice on the shelf, steeping, And I'm back to my old self except that I don't hesitate to have a puff ( I always did with analogs knowing all the crap that went along with the nicotine dose).

Bottom line, I need nicotine. I need it quickly. I also need something to fiddle with and my ego-t is perfect. Especially now that I'm experimenting with dripping. I wake up, not with dread of another day without smokes. I look forward to having exactly what I need when I need it. I sneak-vape at work and seem to be able to focus much better and I get a lot more done.

E-smokes are part of my life now and I will do all I can to keep it that way.

I love your post!

I lost my dad to lung cancer less than a year after he was diagnosed. i continued to smoke regularly for several months after due to stress and generally not caring about my own health during that time (kinda stopped caring about life for a little while).
eventually i just started feeling like an ....... for continuing to smoke, and as soon as i could afford it, i picked up a Black Cherry starter kit.
i resigned myself to the fact that i couldn't quit the act of smoking or nicotine (tried a few times and caved), but i figured an alternative with no carcinogens would be acceptable.
i recently picked up a joye 510 manual, and love it. lookin forward to ordering an EGO soon.
i'm still not entirely analog free. i play in several bands and have literally burned out 2 black cherry batteries beyond use (they're sound activated), and my 510 manual wont last through an entire band practice or show, so i pickup a pack once every couple weeks or bum them here and there.
when i get my ego or another extended manual battery, i'll be off them for life (i went from being an analog fiend to not worrying about them at all literally overnight). i can go forever without analogs provided i have a charged battery.

For me it was a combination of different things. I turned 50 and decided I wanted to live so I dumped a bad relationship that made me want to die and I moved to a completely different area... but the owner of the house I took a room from hated smokers! Even though I smoked outside, in the freezing cold with the rest of the dogs... he complained he could still smell the smoke when I came in! So while getting bedding and supplies at a local mall, I came across a Cigotine kiosk and sampled their product and it was like love at first sight. You see, I never wanted to quit and thanks to e-cigarettes, I don't have to.

I love e-cigarettes so much I took a job at that kiosk, joined their affiliate program, bought kits for my kids and set up a website... though that dream got blown to hell. My company is based in Massachusetts and when talking with my credit card processing rep he informed me that internet and mail order sales of e-cigarettes are BANNED in Massachusetts! A sneaky little maneuver that slipped through back-room channels unnoticed :(

I wanted to quit for a very long time. Tried everything short of perscription drugs. Nothing worked! I'm smart enough to know how bad cigs are for us but I couldn't imagine what to do with myself if I didn't have them. I had a strange urge in January to try an e-cig I found, something different I guess. I wasn't planning to give up my Winstons but somehow 4 days later I smoked my last half of an analog( it was nasty and made me dizzy?). Now I have a new hobby to learn about and enjoy. Someday I'll break even on the money but not to worried about that.

I am in the boat of not getting to the 100% analog free. I have cut down a from a pack a day to a pack a week wich isnt to bad in my eyes. My reasons for wanting to quit are the standard reasons, health, money and happiness. Analogs are like a demon you cant get away and at 2 in the morning you trying to find a store open so you can have one when you wake up. Im hoping within the next month to be 100% analog free.

Primary reason is the money. I say this after the amount I've spent in the 3+ weeks on PV's and juice, but there not in a pile of ash like my analogs. I've kept my full ashtray in the basement to remind me of the waste they are. Now if I can get my dad to switch to vaping, that would be more important than the money.

I quit for health reasons I have been smoking for 29 years a few weeks ago during my morning work-out could not catch my breath all that day I felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Of course I continued to smoke the rest of that week. Had tried e-cigs a year ago and did not continue with them took them out of my closet and promised myself that I would quit I have been tobacco free since Feb 25th. Of course have made a couple of new purchases since then bought 2 new kits e-liquid and feeling much better. :)

Its so great to hear this, thanks for sharing! :)

OK, so I haven't even started vaping yet, but my EGO is on the way.
In order of importance:
Health - I'd really like to see my grandkids grow-up, and be able to play with the greats. (It would also be nice to have a little fun without rolling over huffing and puffing afterwards :p )
Cost - I spend ~$300 a month on cigs. Wifey and I are going on a cruise in August, and I'm planning to put $300 a month aside to buy my vaping supplies. Whatever doesn't get used will be cruise money.
Convenience - I'm tired of having to go outside, no matter what the weather, to satisfy my nic addiction.

I'm sure I could come up with more, but those are the primary reasons.

I loved analog cigarettes. I like smoking.

It really came down to price right now. 10 dollars for a pack of camels wasnt going to work any longer and the 3.25 generic brand from the local indian reservation probably contain 2x the amount of carcinogens.

I tried ecigs and its been a great alternative. Going on 3 months with no analogs. I could probably go all day without vaping if need be...i just enjoy the great flavors i have here.

I LOVED smoking. Had done it for 40 years. I have chronic sinusitis and have always known smoking made it worse. In fact my allergist said there was nothing worse I could do. I could never quit though 'cause I really didn't want to. Because of my health issues though I tried almost all the quitting methods out there. The last attempt cost me 500.00- laser therapy. I finally just gave up on the idea I could quit in the Fall of 2010. January of this year my gal bought me a Riva 901 after talking to some friends of ours who had quit smoking. They had health issues and had discovered vaping. They hadn't smoked in 5 months and really actually ENJOYED vaping. So my kit arrived Jan. 11, started using it Jan. 12 and had my last smoke on Jan. 13. It is absolutely incredible. Just passed the two month mark with no smokes. Now I realize I'm still addicted to nicotine but that's cool. I'm ok with that because there is NO WAY vaping is worse for my health than smoking was. I just saw those friends of ours and we all agreed we enjoy vaping more than smoking. Who'd a thunk it. I enjoy vaping so much I'm now on a quest to improve the experience. Just ordered the last REO mini on the site last Sat. and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival!

Health reasons alone

It is nice that it cost less, but was not a factor
It is nice that I can use it indoors without stinking up the house or car, but was not a factor
It is nice that it actually tastes better, but was not a factor.

The goal was to quit smoking, the continuing goal is to reduce the amount of nicotine.

My problem, like so many others here, is that I liked smoking, enjoyed the experience, this replaced the experience I enjoyed so much, without smoking.

1) Didn't want to die (though that's been hanging over my head for almost twenty years that I smoked)
2) Didn't want to be single forever (and didn't want a GF who smoked, cause it would be harder to quit)
3) Social Stigma
4) Sick of the smell
5) Yellowing teeth (which I can know get fixed)
6) Cost
7) Smoker's hack (made it very hard to be a stealthy ninja)

That laundry list has been on my mind for a while. Mostly, it is hard to frigging quit!!! I did it once cold-turkey and was smoke free for a year. I needed something to help with the ritual/lifestyle of smoking, not just the addiction.

"I've kept my full ashtray in the basement to remind me of the waste they are."

----------

I have two clear 16 ounce bottles sitting on my desk full of butts and ashes to remind me that as a 20 year smoker I've smoked a NEW CAR....figure up the interest that could've been made on the money, and I've probably wasted enough to buy a Corvette.

I started smoking when I was 14. I have always had asthma. Six years ago I got very sick very quickly. I went into ARDS. I was put on life support and a drug induced coma. I was on life support for 2 weeks. Because of the ARDS I suffer from memory loss and I have comprehension problems. I was told I can never smoke again. I was smoke free for about 2 months till I went to a smokers house then went home and my ex was accusing me of smoking which I was not. Pretty much it went down hill from there and I broke down and bought some smokes and began closet smoking.

When it came time for me to quit again I decided in the chantix. I thought this would be it!! I used it for about a month still smoked even tho it made the cigerettes taste nasty, I did cut down a bit though. I didn't finish the chantix because it made me sick to my stomach.

Third times a charm chantix again...This time I decided I would go ahead and finish it all no matter what!! I made it about a month and to be honest I just don't remember what happened with it.

I seen a commercial about a e-cig I think it was blu I am not sure. I went and did a internet search on e-cigs and was blown away by all the different kinds. I had never herd of them before. My first reaction was a safer way to smoke? A safer way to cut back? No more stinky clothes!! I started on the safe cig, and my daughter told me the day I got it and said "Mommy I am proud of you" that is the best feeling in the world. Sense starting the safe cig I have not smoked a analog. I am now waiting for the reo mini and the supplies I ordered. I hope I got everything right. :)

I have read every single post in this thread everyone is so inspirational. Hope to see you all in the forums. :)

My apartment is fantastic (French doors, fireplace, etc.), but opening windows for fresh air isn't a good idea because of their placement. Washing the oil/grime/smoke from cigarettes off the walls, furniture, and electronics all the time gets real old real fast.

Secondary reason is cost.
Far down the list is health issues, especially since I began smoking to help ease a chronic sinus problem and it's come back nearly full force since I switched to only one or two cigs a day.
