I work in a nursing home and several of my co workers have the ecigs and have talked me into getting one. I waste more money on ciggarettes than i get to smoke, because at work i dont really have the time to stop and smoke an entire cig. and put it out. It is just wasteful. So I think im going to make a trip to Denton on friday and wanted some pointers. So i kinda know what I am getting.

Welcome to ECF.

What are your preferences? Have you seen anybody on the forum talking about something you might be interested in? How much do you smoke and how long? Does it have to look like a cigarette? Remember that the more it looks like a cigarette, the worse it will perform. Roughly, what do you want to spend?

Give us some indications of what you are looking for and we will be happy to offer suggestions.

My first kit was a GreenSmartLiving set-up. Very analog-ish, but no-muss/no fuss. I liked the vanilla cartos the best. :)

I've since then moved onto an ego-T, but I still keep the GSL e-cig on stand-by just in case.

If you go that route, I'd recommend spending the extra cash getting two of them (the GreenSmartLiving) That way you can always keep one charging while using the other one.

There is no best. Everybody has their opinion and they will all be different than yours.
Remember there is no part of an ecig that is eventually expendable.
You just need to keep a few simple points in mind.
1 Know what it is your getting. By that i meam threading. as long as you know the threading you can interchange many parts and find an adapter for most others. If you cant find out what threading the cigarette has don't buy it.
2 Focus on the battery. It is the longest lasting part and the most expensive if you change your mind. Also if you decide on changing the battery you'll most likely have to change the charger with it.
3. Now just pick a kit that looks the way you want it to look and has a battery that will last long enough that you don't spend your life recharging.
4. every thing else will be rethought and rebought several times over in the first month.

Remember:

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Here are three good starter kits that will provide you around 5 hours on a charge unlike the ones that look like the real thing which give you a hour or two at best. They are the size of a slim cigar or sharpie pen. Stick with manual batteries for better performance, more control and safer. Get some blank cartomizers and some eliquid in the 18mg - 24mg nicotine strength for starters. You can always lower it but you can't make it stronger and most need this level to make the transition. The ones I would look at are the Kgo, E-Power 510 or the Riva. Here are some well supported suppliers:

KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

This question can get complicated quick, I know from experience (I asked the same thing this weekend!). You may not be knowledgeable at all about the lingo so if you see abbreviations you don't understand, if they have a dotted line under them, you can hover over it to see what it means.

If you're looking for an e-cig that resembles a regular analog cigarette, you have a lot of options, but the one I settled for was the Volt starter kit:

Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Starter Kits

I purchased the $45 kit. It comes with 2 batteries and 5 cartos (the tip that holds the juice). The carto is said to be equivalent to 6 cigarettes (not 1-1.5 packs as I originally stated, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/index.php/beginner-ecigarette-tutorial-2.html). With that, you'll be able to choose the amount of nicotine you want. It ranges from none (0%) to extra high (2.4%) on that site. I cannot recommend what strength you should get so you should research that. As a smoker, to make a successful transition, they say you'll want to have backups of your backups, so it may do well for you to get more than just the $50 starter kit.

There are other options out there as well, enough to make your head spin, so I thought I'd just straight up give you what I came to the conclusion of getting. I haven't tried it out yet so I can't comment on how good it is, but people around here seem to all agree that it's a quality device. I don't know what options you'll find if you look for them in a walk in store, but it seems the more popular store-found brands (like Blu) aren't quite as good as some of the ones you can get online.

If you think a carto is equivalent to 1.5 packs, you're going to be sadly disappointed.

A cartomizer holds approximately 1 ml of juice. You don't vape it bone dry, so you might get between .50 ml to .75 ml of juice. The average person vapes 2/3 - 5 ml per day. At the low end that'd be about 3-4 cartos per day.

Yep sorry, I was mistaken. I remembered the 1-1.5 from this page: Beginner Tutorial - 2

For some reason in my head I equated 1 carto = 1-1.5 packs. Whoops

So scratch that, you'll need a lot more cartos than the 5 the starter pack comes with.

I have to agree with kladidlehopper..

My best suggestion is to research the different kinds. There are alot of great starter kits out there, the joye 510, ego, riva, Kr808 ect. Once you find a few you like look for the specs and reviews on them, this will help narrow down the list.
Most kits will have everything you need, a battery, the charger and cartomizer. all that is left is the juice
P>S
Make sure you get a few different flavors of juices because if you only get one kind and you happen to hate the flavor, well then you will hate using your new awesome ecig!

Good luck on your search and i sure hope you find something that works for you..

Have you tried any that the people you work with have?

This is a nice kit to start with
Riva SE Carto Kit | Sweet-Vapes E-Liquid

Bigger battery kit
KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

Batteries last about 1 hour per 100 mah of continous vaping. That should last you all day. Get 2 boxes of boge or smoktek 1.7 cartomizers.

More expensive but this might be good for you, Reo mini. Small, about 1 1/2" x 2 3/4", hold 3 ml of juice, and you can stick it in your pocket.

The only kit I can recommend for a first time vaper is a Kgo kit and 1.7 ohm smoketeck carto's or "resurrectors" as they are know on ccv. The only "CE2 style" I would recommend is the stardust but they are currently out.

For the money and the vape you will get it is imo the best combination for a new vaper that wont drive ya crazy and give you a quality vape pretty much hassle free. The Kgo batteries are far and away the best "ego" style batteries as they are just more powerful and consistant where they will charge to 4.2 and hold at 3.7-3.8 for most of the charge where as ego's will be more like 3.4-3.5 under load and for me anyways wasnt as good as a vape.

Hope this helps and good luck.

In your price range, I'd look into a Reo. I've never heard of anyone not liking them. They are so easy. Best of all, if you didn't like it you can sell it for practically what you paid for it.

Hi there! I am new and am actually waiting on my starter kit to get here. I HATE USPS!!!!!

Anyway, I know that as I was researching, the things that I found important to look for were:

1- I wanted to be able to fill up in the morning and be good for most of the day....
2- I wanted a longer battery life so I didn't have to charge it every other hour....
3- I know eventually I will want to "interchange" parts etc, so I wanted to look for something that was fairly compatable.

I chose an eGo Mega Dual Cartomizer starter kit and ordered from The Vapor Room.net | Vaporize Nicotine | E Cig Atomizers
No this vendors price was not the absolute cheapest, but I liked the ease of their website, I liked that first time orders received a freebie of 15 ml juice, that you get a 6 ml of juice with your order, the vendor is here in the states AND it is one of the recommended vendors here on ECF.

Good Luck!
