It's always sold out, so much so I'm wondering if it's discontinued? I'm not looking to get 1, it just seems that last Summer when I started vapeing, most ppl considered The Darwin equal to Provari, now it's like Darwin has vanished.

AFAIK, the Darwin is not being made any more. Evolve is making a couple of power boards, a charger board and the kick.

The situation is basically that the cost of the Darwin was far higher than the retail price allowed for, so if it continued to be sold, the price would be at least double the price when last sold.

The cost of a product is composed of two things: the manufacturing cost plus the maintenance cost. The ongoing cost of maintenance for this breakthrough product proved too high - it was a leader in several areas, which meant that in effect it was on the bleeding edge. There were electronics issues; mechanical issues; and a susceptibility to damage by owners, including a liquid leakage issue into the electronics.

It would need to be sold for at least $500 in order to be a profitable product, and presumably the market would be too small for this to work out. If you've got a good working example, that's probably what it's worth (if I had one I sure wouldn't sell it for less). Make sure you don't get tank leaks down the arm into the body; and if you want your Darwin to last, don't rotate the swing arm, leave it up in the vape position.

It's a classic and worth some $$ now - certainly a good idea to take care of it, if you own one. I'd just take mine to vapemeets a couple times a year :)

Evolv really was way ahead of the competition coming out with the first variable wattage device. Now that we are seeing more and more VW models on the market and understand the advantages of VW over VV, it confirms Evolv's foresight. It will not surprise me if in the near future, VW will dominate the "variable" vaping market place. A larger portion of the vaping public are "set & forget", less hassle vapers instead of hobbist vapers who like to "fiddle" and adjust settings.

Got an e-mail from Brandon yesterday, matter of fact, about the cloned Kick issue. So he hasn't disappeared or gone into hiding. He just isn't making Darwins for the reasons that Roly mentioned is all.

I wonder why Nhaler still has them on their web site (although out of stock)? If they aren't making them any longer, he ought to update his site.

I remember a conversation with Brandon that they were planning on coming out with a successor (or addition) to the Darwin after the Kick and DNA products were up and running. I wonder if that is still in the works?

Not sure what Brandon has in mind for a V2 of the Darwin. He did say that he was going to be making one, but that was about a year ago.
I do know that Mamu has been making some nice DNA-20 mods. This little guy with a 1200mAh 25c Li Poly battery is quite the power house for it's size.
