People use all types of them. From factory attys to cartos to Rebuildable atomizers 
Many people have switched to rebuildables because they are so easy to rebuild and produce such a great vape.
I'd recommend starting out with one of REO's RM2s. Wether your new to Rebuildable atomizers or a seasoned pro, it is one of the (if not the) best rba for simplicity and consistency.
A cyclone is also a fantastic choice.
If you like cartos, the short 1.7s REO sells are awesome too

Any cartomizer, or regular atomizer (306/510) can be used, so long as they have an open post. (almost 100% do)
Most any rda < 15mm diameter can be modified into a bottom feeder for a standard Grand, Mini, or Woodvil if your handy with tools.
Most any RDA of any size diameter can be modified into a bottom feeder for an LP (low profile) Grand, if your handy with tools.
Here is a list of some RDA's already "set-up" as bottom feeders along with links to a vendor you can look at or purchase from. The prices may not be the best, search around. I just put this together recently in another post after some "quick" google searching.

The connection takes a 510. Atomizers, cartomizers and RBA's can be used. For the mechanical REO's if using regular atomizers or cartomizers you might want to try from 1.5 - 2.0 ohms. For the VV REO's you can use from 1.5-2.5 ohms and dial in your setting.
Because the REO is bottom fed with juice your toppers will need a bottom hole. The dripper ones will not work for bottom feeding.

The size of the drip well on most REO's will limit the use of larger RBA's. You can purchase a LP Grand that has a lower profile drip well to accommodate most RBA's.

I ordered the RM2 along with my Reo, but also some regular and shorty 1.7 and 2.0 cartos to start out with and get used to squonking while I start rebuilding for the first time.

I think most people have a harder time learning how to squonk a carto or regular atty than they do building a coil. although it seems scary build a coil is really quite easy.
Right now the only RDA I have are the IGO L and the IGO W...could these be used? I do know how to build coils but it I didn't realize you could use regular cartomizers on them.
You would need to modify them for bottom feed and the W will require a LP (Low Profile) Grand, I don't what size the L is.

I only use clearomizers on mine. I like that they hold 1.5ml of juice.

Did you get an LP grand or no? That's a determining factor as has been said. If you are used to the igo, either mod it for bottom feed, or buy one from Rob ready to rock and you know how to build for it.
