For my drippers, I use .24 or .26 ga a1 kanthal from temco. Tried .22 but its just not my thing . I get excellent flavor and plenty of vapor.
On my tanks...kayfun, fogger, taifun, aga t7....after a ton of experimentation , I'm back to .28 ga.
That tricky wire is too expensive when what I've been using works perfectly for me.

a lot depends on your target ohms and number of coils for the build platform. Building for me is all about my target ohms. And want those builds to heat up quickly with the mod chosen. That determines what gage wire I will choose along with how big or small of coil being made.

I've been dabbling with 22 gage Kanthal for builds 0.4 ohms and under. Use it in both single, dual and tri coil rba's. if going quad coils will use 26 or 28, all depends on the build platform and length of coil for build.

Started with 28 gauge, have gone through the twisted timey whimey doctor who builds, and come up with a few of me own., but now prefer single strand round Kanthal. Often trapping twisted wire coil can prove problematic on many rba's.

Basically it all comes down to personal preference. While I'm sure all builders, once competent, just have to try the latest new build. I pretty much use what I like from everything seen and done when creating a build.

Prefer to build something and not have to muck with it for months. One dialed in and optimized, I just don't frak with it. every month or two, will pull the wick, dry burn coil, and brush it clean, do any adjustments if necessary, rinse out the wick re-juice it, slap everything back together and am good to go for another month or two.

Try a little bit of everything, tis the only way to find out, then once ones path is discovered, can buy it in 100' reels, and build. Do have a selection of round and ribbon, 25' & 50' rolls. Generally get that when stocking up on main wire, wire's cheep, comes in handy, and never know where me builds will take one. :D

I have been using 28gauge kanthal pretty much exclusively, I ordered some vapor grudge wire the celtic wir the clapton coil and I believe the tiger wire. The reason I ask this is g plat better than kanthal or should I just stick with regular kanthal. This seems to be something most people don't know and something I been wondering for awhile now. I heard of nichrome too, but it doesn't sound something that's too interesting IMO. Any opinions greatly help thanks!

I'm no expert, but I've been using Kanthal and haven't had any problems with it. Some of the wire that is given free with devices have impurities in the steel and will break apart when annealing, or separate later after you build the coil and start vaping. So I stopped using the "free" wire and have had no problems. Kanthal is the best I've ever had and I'm very pleased with it. I bought 400 feet a few weeks ago.:2cool:

Man, I don't see how you can vape a coil for a month between cleanings!! I clean mine every 2 to 3 days. Plus your batteries will probably last longer if you clean the coil more often - to vape, your battery will have to heat up all the gunk on the coil. Here is a picture of a coil after just a few days vaping:

Hey, while we've got this thread goin, does anyone know anything about the safety of vaping with different wires?

Kanthal : FeCrAl (iron-chromium-aluminium)
Nichrome: (NiCr) (nickle-chromium)
G-Plat : who knows?

I've always assumed they were safe, since I oxidize em good via dry burning before I vape with em....I'm sure inhaling oxidized aluminum from kanthal ain't good

the manufacturer knows but their not telling either... :)

Here is a picture of the coil I vaped with for about 5 weeks. I cleaned it every 2 to 3 days. You can see with my digital microscope that the steel still looks good. It is 30 gauge Kanthal. I only vape at 10 watts though so I'm not sure if higher wattages affect the steel more or not.

Invalid attachment, but here's a pic of on build from 2 months vaping after pulling the wick off.

Yeah, was past do, it's a 0.3 ohm dual tri-twisted 28 gage coil

and after dry burning and brushing

Vaped it another month before rebuilding.

and here's one off the rose after 1 month 29 days

I had pulled the coil, then removed the wick and rinsed it out with warm water, still good enough to reuse. I do have more than one mod and rba, tanks/drippers, so usually take 3 tanked mods with to work, keeping several in rotation. But all get vape frequently unless getting to know a new one.

Just because it is a lower gauge (thicker wire) and less resistance does not always mean it will produce more vapor. It takes more battery power to light up a thicker wire. Sometimes thinner wire at a higher resistance will actually glow quicker/hotter then a thicker lower resistant wire. Keep this in mind as your battery is draining from your mech mod. Sometimes thinner is better, even if higher resistance.

Personally, I had a really rough time with Gplat 22, 24, and 26. It's typically about half the resistance of kanthal per an equivalent gauge and length of wire. Even with the 26 gauge Gplat I couldn't find a sweet spot and I kept getting a strange flavor. I just went back to kanthal, it works just fine for me. To each their own though.

I was actually wondering if stainless steel would work because I know tons of places that sell it around here, some of the gauges of that they have are 18 which is like absolutely ridiculous probs why too big lol. I use 28 gauge primarily because I'm on a 30 watt regulated mod that goes down to .5 ohms but I have a mech mod that should be here tomorrow morning and I'm looking to do some really crazy builds with my 454 clt and magma.

Stainless is about 1.6 times as conductive as Kanthal. 30-gauge stainless is like 28 gauge Nichrome (in terms of resistance per unit length). 30 Gauge Titanium is like 26-gauge Nichrome. (2.6 times as conductive).

So a coil wound with 30Ga titanium would behave much like the same coil wound with 26Ga nichrome, except that it would have less than half the volume, and therefore would heat up much more quickly.
Stainless is primarily iron, chromium, and nickel. (So is Nichrome except in completely different proportions).
Titanium is a biocompatible element (non-toxic, often used for artificial joints, pins, etc).

Both titanium and stainless are highly corrosion resistant so they should last very long in coils.

Have a spool of 30Ga stainless in the mail; will probably try out the titanium as well. Others seem to have had luck with both.

That's kind of what I been doing is trying a bit of everything I haven't had a build in for more than 3 days well except for in the magma just because the magmas flavor is top notch with the build in her, it's the only one I haven't been messing around with. Although I'm sure that will change eventually, I like my coils heating up quick too sometimes I don't mind having a slower ramp up time but I like that warm vape, that's why the magma works so well for me is it's warm. I just put dual tiger wire in the big block on top of my new mech that just come in .4 ohms I can't wait till the vtc is charged lol.

I did want to try the g plat, but I haven't heard a ton of good things from many people about it to be quite honest everyone was raving about it and now no one likes it hahaha. I don't think I would like it anyways kanthal seems to give off a good clean flavor I'm just kind of looking for some new builds trying to find something that will suit me for a long time. My problem is I just plain like to build so I can't just stay on one build for long it seems unless like the magma I just leave it be because it works wonderful either way. The big block actually has been good with just about every build I put into it as well, It's kind of a pain to build on sometimes though lol still getting use to doing vertical builds. I was going to slap a quad coil in here but instead went with the tiger wire, mostly due to I don't see a need for the quad coil to me it's just going to eat my battery and my juice. I think I'm going to grab some 26 gauge though as I like the 28, any of you guys ever do some really crazy parallel builds yet. I've tried a few but the flavors always seems to be off when I do it, possibly the way I'm wicking?

I've only tried kanthal and the other wire was some crap that came with a couple different drippers I believe they sent nichrome either way whatever these companies send out is not very good at all. I have been trying wires from vapor grudge but they are all kanthal wires just wrapped differently. Some people say that g plat isn't good for you, I do not know if it is or not honestly.
