You know what I always recommend people? I tell them the first thing they should do is get one of those $20 E-cigs from 7-11 and see what they think about it. I started that way actually... I saw some guy using one and I tried it, ripped the patch off my arm and bought one.... They really have to believe they can make the switch like that, and theres nothing worse than someone investing more than they have to if its not going to work for them.... I believe everyone thats not a luddite is blown away though so it ends up being more or less a non-issue.... For most typical people I would recommend a 510 after they are sure they like it, then graduating to an eGo as their vaping rapidly snowballs lol. I think the eGo is the most solid e-cig that can make anyone happy.

i've been at this for awhile, as have many of you. what would you recommend as the best starter set-up for a new user based on your experiences? i'm just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are.

unless the newb wants something that looks like a cig, i would skip all propriatery batteries and recommend a $20 box mod and cartomizers, something that is so easy a monkey can use it. batteries can be bought almost anywhere and cartomizers skip the messy 3 piece process. if a battery dies they are only out $4 instead of $20. it's low cost, easy to maintain, easy to use, easily portable and the batteries last all day. and frankly i think they look cool in a dorky kinda way lol. everything i would be looking for if i was starting out today.

what would be your recommended set-up for a newb?

Totally agree. If an ecig is going to work to get someone off analogs I do not think what it looks like will make a difference. A usb box mod with an 801 atty makes a great HV mod. I wish I had just started with box mods instead of a box full of kits and mods that I never use now.

It depends on what someone needs. If someone is an ultralights smoker, or only smokes 5-10 cigs per day, or anyone who requires a super-mini for a reasonable reason, I recommend M4xx. If they are a standard PAD smoker (regular or lights) I tell them to look at minis. If the are a heavy smoker or need long battery life, I recommend Ego or Riva. If they are unable to deal with small parts or have scads of cash and want ultra convenience, I recommend KR808D-1 (again, unless they need all day battery life or something). I read what they are saying and if they didn't say anything about their smoking I ask.

I jumped right into vaping with an Ego kit. I didn't find it difficult to use or set up at all. Seemed rather intuitive to me.

Anyway, I liked it so much that 10 days later I ordered a Riva kit. Now I'm using all 4 PVs through out the day with different juice in each one.

A couple of weeks ago I got a wild hair and ordered a mod. RoughStack. It's OK. But.....I only have one.

I know there are some (or perhaps many) that are perfectly happy using one device all day, but I think I actually need the variety to satisfy my craving for nicotine and vapor.

That is why I would recommend an Ego or Riva kit (with 2 cones) over a single mod for the first time vaper.

the BEST advice i have seen written on choosing an ecig starter kit:
What Is The Best E-Cig? | eCigology

That is a great link. I couldn't have said it better myself.

In fact I did say all of that to a co-worker. Even demonstrated my Ego for her. She was amazed at the amount of vapor it produces. Very enthusiastic about getting one. I wrote down websites where she could order. I recommended ECF for more info. I recommended she get several different nic strengths and flavors. I recommended manual rather than auto batt. So, what did she end up ordering?

Wait for it.........

An E9. Looks like a cigarette. Comes with one auto battery. Costs $13.95. It's been over a month and I have yet to see her use it at work. Still smoking cigs. Says it doesn't seem to satisfy the craving.

You can buy 'em books and send 'em to school, but what do they do? Eat the books.

i hear ya my feller Texan..my best friend, ignored all my advice, despite knowing i have vaped for 2 years, and ordered an ecig based on bogus biased "best electronic cigarettes" online reviews....spent over $150 bucks on an "ultimate" package....waited for a whole MONTH for it to get to her, and still didnt get all the things promised, within 3 days, she gave me money to make an order for her, for an eGo, and juices. i ordered an eGo dual starter kit, with mega eGo cylindrical cartridges 5 pack and a mega cylindrical atomizer from Liberty Flights for $59 and that includes shipping (with ECF discount) and it took 3 days to arrive to Killeen. you can bring a horse to water but ya cant make them drink. some folks just gotta learn on their own.................she told me that she did send back her expensive kit and is praying that they refund her the money as promised.

Yeah, it seems like once you know you are into the idea of using an e-cig, and you have tried it, the best bet would be the eGo, it does so well across the board.
