I was reading some articles on the e-cig, just doing a little more research, and I came across this one:

Dangers of e-Cigarettes - Info Barrel

Um. What?

So, the main issues with e-cigs are "untrustworthy nicotine delivery in cartridges," but I've been dripping and my juices are handmade here in the US, so I know exactly how much nic is in my bottles. Also, you can get nic-free juice. Another issue is PG, because apparently it can cause reproductive and fetal problems, even some sort of mutation? But my juices are 100% VG. And, in this article specifically, it can promote "drug use" because some people apparently place liquid ... on the atty...??? And, if you read the comments, one reader refers to that as "downright scary;" uhhh hahahaha...how is that scary? It's not like someone is going to get high on ... and kill someone. The worst that could happen is they MIGHT eat an entire pizza and go to sleep. Come on now. And I'm sorry, but I see people getting high at concerts (even at the Justin Bieber concert I recently took my daughter to, WTF), in clubs, at coffee shops, etc. I don't think that the e-cig is too much of a contributing problem there.

So I guess my question is...what are the REAL dangers of an e-cig? I can't really find anything that can't be easily avoided by tweaking things a little bit, and all of this sounds...well, stupid. If there are REAL dangers, then yes, I want to know. None of this "it's in antifreeze" crap, because as I mentioned before, PG is also in my shampoo...and there is pesticide-grade PG, and there is food-grade PG. I tired of being BSed with scare tactics. I just want the real deal so I can make an informed decision.

Can anyone offer some insight?

Dangers? Well Im sure there are some. As with everything in life, But... No one has found any that I know of. I figure we gave up smoking which is known to cause cancer and kill us. We smoked any way.
Alcohol is liquid poison. Yet we drink it anyway.
These are all scare tactics because its new. We are kind of the guinea pigs for e-cigs, but we're obviously doing it of our own free will.

At the end of the day... Whats worse then smoking?

As for long term use, the future is a mystery. I have been vaping since april of 09, and I have never felt better in my life. Started smoking when I was 14, and Could barely make it up a flight of stairs. Now I take them two at a time.

Dangerous Side Effects:
Feeling Awesome!
No longer spending $300/mo on cigarettes!
Delicious flavors!
Weight loss from not wanting junk food because I'm vaping the flavor!

I think that anyone using a high nic content juice should be a bit weary. A few nights ago I was vaping while refilling some carts (and getting juice all over my fingers) and developed an epic headache and dizziness. It reminded me of a time when I was younger and had a bit too much caffeine.

I don't worry much about the PG, there are millions of people who have been smoking hookah, which is loaded with the stuff, for many years and I've never seen an article about any glycerine negative effects.

I wouldn't worry too much about that article. They tend to be nondescript in the dangers: "a substance believed to be harmful to humans." But yet they don't refer to it by name?

i couldn't even finish reading that article it was so preposterous. people really need to learn to do ALL their research before even trying to post crap like that!!!! i'm tempted to create an account there just to tell them that i've got all of ECF's links to throw at them.

i really don't see how people can go through life just spouting what "authorities" tell them without doing any real investigating on their own.

As much as it may cause people to snicker, I wear gloves when I am messing with stuff and can get juice on my fingers (such as cleaning carts and the atty)...but I also use low-nic juices (6mg...and I want to get some in 0mg).

I was actually hoping the e-cig would help me lose weight because of the flavor! I get wicked sweet cravings at night, but last night I went outside and vaped and I was happy and relaxed! So we will see how that goes.

My thing is that we KNOW the dangers and downsides of smoking...and there are a LOT of them. Cancer, emphysema, heart problems, wrinkles, increased risk of stroke/asthma...and yet, they're legal. HOW can e-cigs be outlawed/frowned upon for "health" reasons?

I'm only a one-day vaper, and I'm already annoyed lol.

Yep, that bugs the ### out of me every day...

Well, we know the WHY...it's all about the benjamins.

But seroiusly, HOW can they do it??
I am curiously looking forward to the actual lie that they put on society as the reason they ban it.

people have a natural hatred for things they don't understand. sadly since any idiot can put anything on the internet we end up with articles like that.

Well said cactuar13! Maybe I should write an article on how e-cigs are 100% safe. But then I'd be stooping to their level and I won't do that.

People love misery and doom! Look at the soap opera ratings :p

Me? I'm planning on vaping till I die... hopefully a very old man!

Interestingly enough, this same person wrote another article the following week contradicting a lot of what he/she had said previously:
Do e-Cigarettes Help People Quit Smoking - Info Barrel

Read this person's comment at the bottom. He/she said they would have probably used ecigs had they been available at the time they quit... hmm.

Ok, after reading, maybe he/she didn't contradict persay, but wasn't as 'bashing' in this article...and the comment at the bottom still blows me away. Who bashes this stuff and then says they would have tried it had they been able to? Idiot.

here's the thing for me.

Back when we started smoking cigarettes, it sucked. We coughed and hacked until we learned to smoke. Eventually we figured it out and became "casual" smokers.

During that casual phase, we stuck with it for a variety of reasons. Either, we were very young and wanted to look older and "cool" or we did it to fit in with our peers, or we actually enjoyed the flavor, feeling and maybe even the buzz they gave us. We smoked for the pleasure of it.

Eventually though, all of that went away. We became addicted to the nicotine. The nicotine is bad for us, but not nearly as bad as the delivery system. Smoking processed tobacco products treated with thousands of chemicals ends up killing us in the end. its not an 'if" statement but a "when." Smoking cigarettes WILL kill you!

So along comes e cigs. They deliver the nictonie without the thousands of chemicals. And while nicotine isn't good for us, at least those other chemicals aren't present killing us.

As for me, I see ecigs as a way to taper off my nicotine habit through lower and lower dosages, all the while enjoying the flavor and experience that first drew me to cigarettes in the first place. Once I am at 0 mg nicotine, then I will vape for the pleasure of it.

Which was what cigarettes were supposed to be in the first place.

What about American Spirit cigarettes? Would those then be less dangerous than, say, Marlboros? Would they be "as safe" as vaping?

I swear I'm not trying to be contrary, just trying to understand everything :)

I am eating a whole pizza myself as we speak, no illicet substances involved. My doctor prescribed medicine for anxiety(NOT MaryJ) causes me incredible appetite and drowsyness. I explained that to the doctor, who thinks a MJ perscription would be a bad thing, but they don't seem to see the irony in that the side effects are even WORSE than the CA legal herbal medicine. Go figure. And ANY smoking equipent can be used for illegal purposes, even lightbulbs and microwaves can. lol

If you notice, on a pack of AS cigs are the initials FSC(fire safe cigarettes). They are no saver, and infact are misleading in that they point out the Tobacco is "100% additive free", when in fact the paper and filter have been treated with who knows what in order co comply with FDA requirements.

There are not enough face palms on the planet to respond to that article....sheesh.

The manufacturers tout it as a smoking cessation aid

I have not seen one manufacture that does this; in fact they all seem to say the opposite.

Can Promote Drug Use

Hahaha, excuse me while I pick myself off the floor. This is so old, tired and whipped to death it is hardly even worth discussing anymore.

"...... Madness" anyone? :D :p

I can see it now....VAPOR MADNESS!!!
