I finally have my first regulated device with temp control and so forth. Using the Evic VTC that I won right here on ECF. I have the firmware upgraded and I am using the Ego Mega. My question is what wattage is good for a vape. I have found if I go above 20 watts it is like a nasty nasty flavor that taste like burning ... hairs (the only descriptor I could come up with LOL) Is there something wrong or is it just my juice is not good for the higher watts?

Why not try turning it down slowly from where you don't like it? If you go down by increments you'll get to where YOU like it and quite frankly that's all that counts. As someone wrote years ago on the pipe forums "if we were all the same we'd all be smoking Carter Hall in a billiard."

What wattage is good for a vape:
On some setups like many evod starter kits, 5 watts is about right.
One some more recent tanks, like the smok tfv4 and others , the right kind of wattage is over 50 watts.
And then there's everything in between.

It all depends on the coil

There isn't one. Only the one that works for you. You start low and go up until your vape tastes good to you. If you like that juice at 15W, but it tastes burnt at 20W, then 20W is too high for you with that equipment.

This is true LOL. I was hoping to be able to increase to a higher wattage. I got it set at 20 which is good right now for me :)

What coil are you using in the Ego Mega? Do you know the PG/VG ratio of the juice you are using? (If not, is it real thick like syrup, or more thin and watery?)

Im using the titanium .4Ohm coil. the juice is 50/50 right now and I am thinking that's the reason.

Yeah seems everyone has there own preference. I was more looking at general ideas. Because I have used other peoples vapes and had them set higher and loved it but for some reason my own is not working (taste wise) on the higher watts

Like was said it all depends, Right now on my Sig 3ow with a 1.8 coil I am running at 7.6W and for the 30/70 juice I use I found it is my sweet spot. The Sig does all the math and right now is hitting it with 3.8V. It really depends on the coil, the juice and what you like.

I would say bring it waaaaaaaaaaay down and start from there, once you hit your sweet spot you will love it :)

Weird you should post this. Lately I miss the feeling of a billiard in my hand and the smell of unburnt Esoterica Penzance.

I'm not familiar with your particular device; does it auto-detect a temperature-sensing coil and set TC mode (Temperature Control) automatically or do you have to set it manually? Titanium coils are for temperature mode only, I believe, and so you shouldn't be using that coil in wattage mode. In temperature mode, the device will use all available wattage up to (either your wattage setting or the device's max, depending on individual model) only until it reaches the temperature setting, and then it will back off the wattage and only use what is required to maintain that temperature.

Yup , it's very simple actually , i always start new coils out on very low wattage , i then inch it up until it taste like i want it .

NEVER start at high wattage , just my opinion

I dont see anything in the instructions stating auto detect, so I assume it would only be manually. I wasnt aware the titanium was only for TC so I appreciate you explaining this. I switched over to TC and the wattage dropped to 18.2 and adjusts as I am using. This seams to be the best option for me so far!

You might need to do a firmware update and try it in Temp Control titanium mode ...........

The proper wattage depends mainly on the coil;
if you change to a different type of coil head, you will find it is like shifting gears.

Some of the newer coil heads come with the recommended wattage printed on them.
Bigger coils need more power to get warmed up.

I use 4.4 watts on my ancient Kanger T3S tanks. I'm closer to 8 on some larger tanks.

Where you hit depends on what tastes good! Generally? Start low and nudge it up until you like it. Then nudge a bit more and see if you like it more. If it starts to taste a little burned, nudge it back down, you went too far.

If you're in a good range, don't be afraid to fine tune that. You'll find the spot that, 95% of the time, produces a perfect vape (and a good one the other 5%).

What you set it at depends on the coil, your tank, and the airflow you set it at. I very strongly prefer a thin, high ohm Kanthal coil and a very, very tight draw, so my wattage settings tend to be low. Your mileage is almost certain to vary!
