Ok, year two of vaping, and, as it turns out, the year of the RBA for me. Been vaping the Kayfun 3.1 this entire new year, exclusively, and now it has happened. I CAN now taste the filler material in my carto [tanks]. Thanks RBA Gods. I was pretty happy with my nice carto tank collection, now ruined by the vastly superior vape of a kayfun with cotton and Rip Tripper micro coils. Took a couple of weeks to get my micro coils down (enough to show them, lol), and what a vape! So much better that the cartos. Coils last a long time (I was changing cartos about every one or two days), and a cotton change takes about as long as preparing a carto did, so check to the convenience factor that I was dreading with RBA's. Easy Peazy.

So, lately I've been noticing some very positive gear changes hitting the market. The 26650 looks great. I want one with the new DNA 30. I would buy that setup in a second. Really, any tube APV with DNA 30 is a contender for my vape dollars. Haven't used clearos in a good long while, but these new ones with air flow/juice control look very promising. The Nautilus looks quite good, and Rip's new video on recoiling them, even better.

The RBA's are so good that the missus now wants one, so I ordered her an HCigar Kayfun 3.1 clone from Vivid Smoke. Heard good things about this clone. Also, just got my Origen Dripper recently, and what can I say, what a vape! Not good as an all day device (I need a tank), but as a change of pace change of juice, pretty darn happy. Why every device doesn't have air flow control is beyond me. I need air flow control now in everything I vape. Every clone maker, original innovator, etc. needs to add this feature to our gear, imho. Sure, I can make holes bigger and have all the drills to do this, but what about when I want a tighter draw, like when I'm not quite wicking enough to keep up with my chain vaping?

You know, without your assistance with these better devices and positive feedback, together with some good YouTube videos, there's no way I could have ended up here at my present VapeQuest. Thank you. I was a pretty consistent 7 watt vaper with my carto tanks, and fairly happy. Cranking the watts to about 10 now, with these nice 28 gauge kanthal/cotton builds, though, just provided a better flavor, better vapor, better throat hit for me. As such, I just about have to use only 6 mg/ml juice now. When I feel like I'm not quite getting enough nic, I'll throw some 12 or even 18 in the tank and vape that, then back to the 6. Vaping is pretty great these days. I can't wait to try the Taifun GT and the Squape now. I have ordered the HCigar Taifun to check it out from Vivid Smoke. Looks like a good clone and gets good reviews. If I do like it then I will get the original with dripper, tubes, etc. But, before I drop $250, I want to make sure that it is at least as good as the Kayfun's. I love that we can try out the better devices now without shelling out $200 to see if we like them. Since I am a total believer in supporting our originators, what I have been doing is selling my clones and buying the originals to replace them. This has worked well for me, and the better clones sell in about 2 hours in online auction, so, again, I'm pretty happy with our choices and options.

Your thoughts on the kayfun, the Taifun, the Origen, the DNA 30, the 26650, the new AFC clearos would be appreciated. Also, any tips on rebuilding would be greatly appreciated. I'm in good shape on gear and supplies now, just really excited to try different builds that provide something special in the vape. Also, if you have specific RBA/RDA recommendations, I would love to hear about them. What has worked for you? Sorry for the wall of words, didn't realize when I started that I would go in so many directions at once. Thanks for reading. All the best, and thank you again.

Wow Bill... got a lot on your mind do ya? ;-)

Good to see you're thinking of your vaping future... and placing thoughts of same into the heads of others.

This bit...

I think you may have it sorted already William. You've got the Taifun clone coming and a probable genuine version after that. The Origen is near the top of the heap, and it's been cloned, so well see boat loads of them soon enough.
I've been playing a bit with some ceramic rod that Mike Petro "donated" Not a lot of room to maneuver in our "little chimneys" - but I'm an experimenter.

The Squape clones are a hit and miss apparently... genuine Tobeco getting the nod for now. Might be a safer bet to buy genuine in this case. Build is absolute cake with the ematal deck and thumb nuts... but vape, to be honest IMO, no better than a proper built Kayfun/Russian.

Tatro has an atty... the Tatroe T1 RDTA. Like to get my hands on one, just to see what it's all about. Some are saying the Fogger 3 is a winner... haven't tried personally, you be the judge there. There are some fancy gennys... but I don't fool with them, so not the best to comment.

Lately, I've been building a Russian 91% as a dripper. Fit a cheap GotVapes plastic tank, remove the chimney, flop some cotton down to the decks like a deep well RDA, fill 'er up to a bit below the top of the positive block - juice up and vape away!

Lots of chat about the DNA30, and one specifically about coming DNA30 tube APVs that I popped into. Tatro does a 26650 mech now (for a fair price no less!)... interesting, if you want to do a mech, but I see these first 26650s as just mfgs. dipping a toe in. I think we'll see boat loads of 26650 everything in the next 6 months.

As you've noted, lots of fancy clearos & glassos, here or coming... not much interest from me, but they do point in a direction don't they.

To be honest, I really don't want anything I don't already have at least one of. If I could get a carto tank that taste like a R91% :)... but, as you know, even with IKVs, that's not happening. Maybe the future?

Yeah, the Origin is a beast and produces big vapor when wide open from a single micro coil. Just cleaned mine again, and finally got rid of the funny taste.

I definitely am intrigued by the Tatroe T1. Hard to believe it is no longer serialized, because that makes it far less attractive to me (the value drops without it). Gonna need to see a video or something on the setup, but I like the concept. If it seals properly, it sounds perfect.

Have you heard anything about the HCigar Squape? Saw them here: HCigar Squape Atomizer $42.99 - VividSmoke.com.

For an RDA, what is better than the Origin? Now that coil building is fast and easy, and cotton changes, a no-brainer, I plan to use these in several ways, including juice testing. I'm about 30 tests behind my juice production ATM.

What about the Sophia for carto tanks. Seen the videos. Won't this do it for us, i.e., give us the RBA vape, in the carto tank? I almost pulled the trigger on this but the Leo site wouldn't take my money for some reason. Maybe out of stock.

Thanks for the great feedback, SOF. I appreciate it. Actually, my friend, I don't have it sorted out, and thus the post. What I want to know is performance of RBA, RDA, RTA from actual users, now that I can build a good coil, can hit a targeted resistance, etc. Microcoils with cotton is just boooyyyyaaaaahhh for me, so there's no turning back for me. From a user's POV, and not reviewers, but us guys in the trenches, which RBA's, RDA's and RTA's are the best, and why? I'm delighted with my Kayfun's, and do get all the flavor and vapor that I need for an ADV. The KF4.0 is coming out this Spring and I heard that it's going through Patent Pending at the moment, but that "it ticks all the right boxes!" from Keith at C9V. While not perfect, perhaps, the design of the SMKF, is superb. Forcing the gravity-fed juice to go up sure solved a lot of vaping problems, imho. Marvelous. I have just about as much fun painting my cotton wicks with my juice into the perfect form and placement as I do in making the coil itself.

Not that interested in another mech. I think they are slightly overrated now. With the newer better chips allowing for low ohm builds, and better coils and air flow, regulated devices are working just fine for me, and offer a world options not available with the mechs. Since we can do a 15 watt, or now 20 or 30 watts on a 1.2 - 1.8 ohm coil and get all the vapor and flavor my lungs can possibly handle, why do I need to go subohms without regulation? Not for vapor and flavor any longer, or, at least, not for me. They kick like a mule now with my juice. I swear I feel like I went down the rabbit-hole into this new world, which is largely alien and strange to me, and I'm playing catch-up. Very exciting stuff for me. Thanks again for your two cents. Always appreciated! All the best!
