I have several regulated systems. Smoktech VV/VW batter - iTaste SVD and Innokin VV/VW - Spinner 1300 - Spinner 2 - SID -
I have a Kayfun and Orchid that I use on the SVD and like my builds around 1.2-1.4
My question - I am curious about the unregulated Mods - what's so great?? I've seen a few of the Nemesis 14650's on fasttech that are really cool - but why just can't make up my mind .... I mean - why spend the money?? Would I get a better vape?? Are they just "fun" because of the challenge of tinkering with them??
I have a very LARGE pile of tanks....and a few batteries that are just sitting wasting away as I never use them - and I am afraid to even think about how much money I have in them! I don't want to buy another toy that will sit and collect dust - so what is the advantage?? Is the 14650 a good size mod to handle my Kayfun or Orchid?? I've done a lot of research .... but get more confused with all the choices! And I know that you all know better than anyone and have the answers for me!
Any thoughts/help is greatly appreciated!

14650 is skinny, like ego sized skinny, so probably not the best fit for a kayfun/orchid.

The advantages to mechs are:
1. No circuit board to fail.
2. If you're handy, you can repair most problems yourself.
3. Unregulated means you can use low resistance builds that wouldn't fire on other devices.
4. Most of them look really nice.

Disadvantages:
1. YOU ARE THE SAFETY MECHANISM
2. Your vape quality is dependent on your battery voltage.

any of the clones on fasttech are a pretty small amount of money to spend if you just want to try one out. They are better suited for RDAs, though, because you can build the coils to get ridiculous power out of the device.

and you should get an 18650 mod, not 14650... didn't know they even made mech mods like that... sounds dangerous as I don't know of any high drain 14650 batteries.

Yea - they are called the "mini" ..... look nice - but if they wont work with my Kayfun and Orchid - that's about all I use these days - took me several tries to get the Orchid dual coil to work (kept getting below 1.0) but finally got it - I'm learning!!

I will - I've done a lot of reading.... but still have a lot more to learn .....
there's some nice looking 18650's on Fasttech!!
Thanks for the help!!

No prob, I'm a big fan of the original stingray and the stingray X clones :)

Also, be aware that the "35A" efests are only 20A continuous.

ETA: make sure you read the discussion on the specific model you plan to order on fasttech, sometimes items that look exactly the same, have seriously different quality.

Yea.....you just lost me on the "20A continuous"...... so that means I have more homework to do......oh boy......
Will take a look at the Stingray..... haven't looked at those yet - got hung on the Nemesis - thanks for the tip!

I have many copper mods. I like the way they look and they hit hard. The ones that I want to keep shiny need to be polished weekly though, which might not be something you are into.

Also, if you don't plan on using anything other than 18650 batteries, I think the single tube mods are easier, look sleeker, and are just better all around as compared to the modular mods for multiple batteries. A few great ones: Overdose, Pegasus, XXiX, Paragon, Caravela, FUhattan

The amp rating of the battery used in a mechanical with rebuildable is VERY important if you're wrapping coils below 1ohm. Do your homework on Ohm's Law. There is a handy circular diagram to make any and all electrical equations relate to each other. It is a law all coil bulders should know.

I own 2 mechanicals. I like my tube in 18350 mode (telescopic). Unfortunately, the coil must be above 1ohm on my KFL+, because my IMR 18350s have an amp rating of 6A. to go .5ohm with my build would be asking the battery to provide more current than it is capable of. When you do this to a battery it can go into thermal runaway...or BOOM in layman's terms.

Buy quality batteries for whatever mod you use. Know the amp rating and build within spec using a quality multimeter. Doing these things can provide an impressive and satisfying vape experience. NOT doing these things can provide an impressive catastrophe.

Happy vaping! :toast:

Hard to explain to someone that has not had the experience.
Then to, those that have tried but did not have the setup proper also cannot understand.

My most basic(?smallest) setup - an ego 450mah with Smok 1.7ohm Super Shorty Cartos'
My newest Setup - A 4Nine with an Orchid Dual coils at .53ohm

Total opposite ends of the spectrum. However used properly both deliver ever enjoyable vapes and both have their time and place.

Each Vaping Niche is an adventure you can only understand by experiencing.
Have fun with it :)

I think its just a new venture for me.....I really enjoy the Kayfun - it's hard to beat - even the Orchid (still haven't mastered it and the draw is a little loose for me) ....
I know I am the ONLY one in the entire vaping world who has this problem (hahahahahaha my lie :) ) ..... I want a new toy!!
I do have a lot more to learn .... so for now I better hold off till I understand better - maybe in a few weeks I'll take the pludge.
You all are the best! Thanks!

You'll be fine. The most important thing is to know your batteries.

For instance, if you have batteries that are rated for 20Amps continuous, you don't want to run any coils that will push the battery beyond that.
Ohm's law is your friend, know it, love it, live it. Ohm's Law Calculator
Basically Amps = Voltage/Resistance

So calculate a full battery charge at 4.2v, and let's say you want to run a 0.8ohm coil.
4.2/0.8=5.25 Amps, which is well under the max of the 20A battery.
