What's the fuss with expensive mech mods?!

I feel that it's comparable to coffee. People like the feeling of power in their grasp, just like a fat cold ceramic coffee mug in their hand as opposed to a styrofoam cup with good java still in it.

Someone would rather feel like they're holding a reliable king's staff in their hand as opposed to some china-made microchip.

Newbie to the forum and vaping world guys, so bare with me with this question.
I know this have been discussed to the death in numerous threads, but can someone sum it up here? Waaayyy to many threads to dig.

It depends on what you think is expensive and the type of vaping experience you want.

I prefer REO mods because they are bottom feeders and are built to last forever. It is up to the individual to research and compare the different types and shapes before investing money. It took me over a year to find the best for myself.

Behind you!
Its like any other hobby. You will invest time, you will invest money. But unlike most other hobbies, you will do this daily, and possibly hourly. Thus at some point, you will realize the importance of quality. Quality device, quality juice, quality experience, quality quality quality! The question is, how much will you invest for something you do so much of? How much will you invest in the quality of that experience? There is something for everyone, at any level of investment in vaping. Its all a matter of where you want to take your vaping experience. :) I personally dont mind paying a premium on this since it is something I love. Vape on!

yes, especially since its about 5 x the retail price. If im not mistaken those new were between 2 and 3 hundred. Thats called robbery to me, but he has the right to try and get what he thinks its worth. There might be someone out there with the money to spend because he really wants a red device with a "cool" skull

Me? I would have that if it were given to me. Id sell it for a 1000 bucks:evil:

Seriously, if you are just after a good reliable PV there are many in the range of 60 to 120 that are well made and work great. Its part exclusivity, part showing off, as soon as the "IT" mod becomes popular and too many common folks have it than the enthusiasts jump on another must have.

Its like those car collectors that have to have the high end power that most of the time they will never get to use to its full extent. Its the WOW factor, its the "chick" magnet, even though most women have no clue what the guys MODs are worth. Just the wives when they get the credit card bills.

But for the gals its purses with great big LOGOS or brands. As soon as that pair 600 dollar shoes get cloned and sold at payless or the handbag that cost 2000 bucks becomes copied and sold at Walmart they jump on the new it bag.

There is quality that goes into some of the MODs and when you thread together those parts and they screw in like butter and you drop it and it hardly scuffs. Thats when you seen the difference. Also if you are a sub-ohm rebuildable fan than the details like conductivity etc, you might notice the difference.

Basically they are all a metal tube with wiring or no wiring connected to a battery. The real big difference or money should be put into your atomizer/ juice delivery. Again, there is nothing simple or more satisfying than a carto for practically instant gratification.

well, thats my 20 cents worth of opinion.

Like you say its subjective. You dont have to wait months or get on a list, or spend 200 or more dollars. The difference is very minor. Dont let anyone tell you that it tastes better or performs better. A good atomizer or well built rebuildable on most mods will be fine.

Some people enjoy expensive devices for different reasons, but really , no one else to impress but yourself when it comes down to it.
I started out with KGOS and went to something that gave me a longer life battery wise. I got a modest MOD in the 100 range. It has been great to me.

I just kept drooling over the Super-T devices because they were beautifully made. After a year of lusting, I got some birthday/christmas money and said heck with it, I got the ELA , its telescopic and I can use it in mini mode. As far as the experience what can I say its just as good maybe a little better, I had to lower my nic and lower the settings on my KICk so I guess it hits a bit harder, but is it worth 200 dollars? Honestly , if I didnt have the money to get my " lusts desire" Id still be happy with my simple "eye sore" that so many called my Saber Touch.

Funny thing is that I dont go out much, I dont hang with fellow vapers I dont get to show it off so its my "Selfish or private (even guilty) pleasure"

Now, the ELA does feel amazing, its much heavier, its the same feeling i get holding my RUgers or S&W stainless steel revolvers. Thats why I love it. I will get to hold it, caress it, and polish and clean it weekly like my handguns.

Moving up to an expensive mod was the defining point when I made the full switch from smoking occasional analogs to full-time vaping. At the time, owning a big battery mod was a big difference because the alternative was a 510 manual battery. More importantly, moving up to a more expensive mod made a loud statement, which said, "I am making this investment because I am committed to vaping." My first expensive mod was a Silver Bullet from Altcig, purchased in late 2009, when big battery mods were still pretty new on the scene. Since then, I've been able to help other smokers make the switch from analogs to vaping. For each of them, I made the same suggestion to upgrade to a more expensive mod when they were ready to commit to vaping. Most of them didn't want to spend the money on something like a Provari when they were unsure of being successful at switching. So they bought Ego setups. They'd flip flop back and forth between analogs and their Egos. Once they finally got fed up with that, they'd either go back to analogs, or they'd pony up and get a nice mod. After they make that commitment financially to get a nice mod, I haven't seen one of them switch back to analogs.

So, it's not just about owning something expensive just for show. For many of us, it is the definitive statement that "We are giving up cigarettes for good."
