Heard from some 'seasoned' vapists, it's all about the firing... Perhaps because of the material used?...

Nah, you can get comparable firing with a $27 sigelei. I have 2 #8ws that only drop 0.2 voltage, without modification. As long as the mod is simple, reasonably well made, and has the best conductive material, i.e. brass for the connector elements, it will perform along with the "best".
The top-tier mechs are about beautiful design, material, and craftsmanship.
