Screw it on and press the down button till it stops and see what it says. To know the real setting you would need an oscilloscope I presume. If you have a 1.2 ohm in the tank it will work, apparently you can go as low as 1.0 ohms on the shtick.

Now if you mean what is the lowest wattahe that you can fire the tank at, I don't know.

iStick is able to output 12w at certain ohms. The unit is inaccurate at lower settings but close at higher settings.
See PBusardos Review for actual test numbers. Roughly 8w-20w at 1.2ohms

1.2ohm will be your lower limit. iStick minimum resistance = 1ohmish

You will want at least 12w to get any decent Vape and coil life from the heads

Forget all those stupid numbers. Screw it on and turn it up gradually until you like the way it vapes. There is no "this coil needs this watts" number. Your the one vapeing it, set it for you.

Totally agree. Start low and work your way up till you find what you like. You're not going to hurt anything by under powering it.

Hi, I have the kanger subtank with the 1.2 ohm on it, the 1.2 ohm says it needs minimum 12W, but I know the istick 12W isn't ACTUAL 12W ! So what would be the minimum wattage on the istick for the subtank with 1.2 ohm.
Thanks

(Vmean x Vpeak) /R = Prms

(Vmean x 5.8) / 1.2 = 12
Vmean = 2.48v

But the lowest setting on the istick is 3.0v mean.
(3 x 5.8) / 1.2 = 14.5 w rms

And to throw in another twist. The PWM peak-peak will change when the battery level is below 2/3 from 5.8 to 4.8.
(3 x 4.8) / 1.2 = 12 w rms

So the answer is 3.0 volts or 7.5w with a battery voltage less than 2/3.

I ordered a Kanger sub tank while I decide on what battery I want I only have the istick to run it. So when you find out what it can do. Could you post your results?. I know it is 25mm with a 22 ml beauty ring but it will only be use at home till I get my battery. I was just curious if you could post a pic?

Thanks everyone, I thought it was in some way dangerous to vape on low ohms with incorrect power, eg why would the instructions for the subtank (for the 1.2ohm) say 12w minimum, why do they bother saying that when it actually works powering it at less watts, no danger whatsoever?

I would imagine they don't want people with lower powered devices buying them and being disappointed because they thought they had enough to power it.

Thank You SOOO Much for posting this video! I have an iStick and love love love it, but all of a sudden every flavor I have tastes burned and I'm going through coils like crazy. Such a simple fix, and it has took finding this post for me to figure it out...yes, I am new....lol! But seriously this probably saved my whole vaping experience.

It isn't about being new in some cases since some of us had the same experience with the iStick even at its lowest setting. The iStick appears to have a serious QC issue with uniformity of power output from device-to-device. I rarely use mine now and only with a Kayfun I have at 1.4ohms.

Forgive me, but I always thought one of these "Subtanks" somehow came with a sub-ohm coil. 1.2 ohms certainly is not sub-ohm.

You can vape with any amount of watts you like best (as long as your battery/APV is capable of supplying it).

Personally, I like 11 watts of power, so I would need 3.6v if I was using a 1.2 ohm coil.

Does the iStick have the capability to 'buck' (decrease) battery voltage down to 3.6v? .... If not, put a higher ohm coil in that Kanger Subtank clearomizer ... You don't need to be stuck with a 1.2 ohm coil do you?

If you want 12 watts of power using that 1.2 ohm coil, you need to need it feed it 3.8v

NOTE: Like someone else posted here .... Just start out at low power and keep increasing the power until you are most happy with the vape ... Nothing too it

You will find your 'sweet spot' doing it that way

For such a small limited mod, it should be able to regulate power well in the lower range, but it can't do it well. They run hot. Quite honestly, I think you'd be better served running an iStick on the higher end of the power range.

You also won't be able to use anything but 1.2 ohm coils on an iStick.

Basically, you'll need to build a setup in RBA mode at 1 Ohm or higher, or you'll need to use the 1.2 Ohm stock coils. Start at 12 watts and work your way up.
