I'm happy enough with XP on my desktop and Xandros Linux on my EeePC, but if that little machine had more storage/memory (it's a first-gen model), I'd install Ubuntu on it.

Aptitude/synaptic rocks for installing software. Finally Linux is accessible for lusers such as myself ;)

I forget computing stuff just as fast as I can learn it, so my adage is: "don't fix (upgrade) what ain't broke".

I went to visit a poorly netbook the other day, she was running XP rather well tho and she had a hard disk!! Just needed the wireless password put in and off she went! Why on earth would you want Windows on a netbook you ask? Well Flight Sim2000 probably runs well enough on one so you could go on a plane and fly the virtual plane in real time!! Or if you prefer emulators that don't need a command line to configure, you could play old Megadrive/Genesis games on it!

I got a worm on my pendrive, courtesy of an internet café in Tobago (76 instances--and they wouldn't let themselves be deleted by the virus scanner). If my EeePC would have run XP, that would have bricked it!

That is why you use anti virus software and a good backup tool/disk imager :p with a hard disk based netbook you can also dual boot your favourite Linux distro for super secure browsing fun!!
