Why did you start vaping?

I smoked a pack or more a day for 29 years.
Tried other things to quit. Nothing worked.
I am in good shape for my age being in construction I am constantly up, and down ladders, and stairs normally carrying my tool bags.
Wife of 19 years doesn't smoke, and has put up with my (ex)nasty habit without complaint (smoked outside only but know my breath, and clothes stank from cigarettes).
When I couldn't lay on my back without coughing at night, and constantly had to clear my throat I could feel the toll of all the crud I had been putting into my lungs for nearly 30 years.
I want to be around for not only my kids but my future grandkids.
It was time to try again to quit.

I always had the desire to quit, and could make it up to 8 days without a smoke (on previous attempts).
The patch, gum, and cheapo gas station ecigs just weren't cutting it, and I would fall right back into smoking again.
This time was different though.
This time I bought an MVP with an iclear 30 tank, and some juice flavors I like.
Started vaping on Feb 18, and didn't want another cigarette.
This had flavor, this produced vapor, this fulfilled my body's desire for nicotine.

Now a month + later I am vaping on mech mods, mixing my own juice, and using only rebuildable attys.
Loving vaping, and the fact I no longer smoke, and can breathe easier.

Nothing like a good old wake up call when future loved ones are involved. (or present)

I smoked tobacco for about 30 years, then in the past decade or so I felt like an outlaw, the bad guy, people would give me the stinky eye when I was smoking, the whole time I did dislike the smell of cigarettes, a couple months ago my daughter gave me a protank 2 kit and 4 days latter I smoked my last cigarette. SO I'd say the main reasons are first and foremost health and then social.

I find it amazing that people participating in something that ONE FIFTH of the planet does can still be ostracized. Now instead of being the bad guy, we are simply just ninjas. No one knows anything unless we want them to. No one needs to know anything because we no longer effect others.

I smoked for about 18 years or so, went from my Camel Turkish Royals to cheap King Mountains when my good job went away in 2008 I started "rolling" my own with a machine and premade tubes when the state of Washington bumped the carton to over $70. Moved to Oregon last summer, met a woman almost two months ago that is not a analog smoker (she likes hookahs though :D ) and basically switched for her.

Now I wondering why I didn't do this years ago. I was an aggressive smoker. Winners don't quit, right? Now I am resenting all the time I've spent with cold feet smoking outside during the winter and the times in the rain.

Oh yeah, and I LOVE the smell of fresh tobacco. Smells like chocolate to me. Still I have not had an analog since March 6th.

Smoked a pad for 14 years. Started with premium brands for $3.75 a pack and ended up smoking "cheap" cigs for $4.67. That's $1,600+ just last year. Even at a conservative estimate, I've spent $19k on smokes in my lifetime.

My wife is a non-smoker. I've smoked since I met her and her mom smoked, so it was never a deal breaker. But she was always being annoyed at me sucking one last cancer stick down before the movie started, or kissing me after I got back in from smoking. I wreaked at work as anyone with a sense of smell could tell you.

I tried an cigalike. I thought it was a great way to get rid of the smell and step down my nicotine. It went in the garbage soon after. But recently I saw someone with a PV and it seemed like it would actually replace cigarettes and it has (albeit a rough start). I bought my PV on March 6. I've been analog free since March 9.

Unlike most people on this forum, I don't want to vape everyday for the rest of my life either. But I'm enjoying the massive benefits of vaping over smoking. I think quitting vaping will have it's challenges, but at least I can try to turn down the nicotine levels over time.

I've spent $100 so far on vaping including my kit, replacement parts (my kit was terrible, wish I had known more), and liquid for the past two weeks AND 50ml worth of juice for the next. I would have spent $70 by now on smokes. I'm not a hobbyist and I'm loving my simple setup so I'm looking at a lot of savings going forward.

I started vaping to quit smoking. Didn't care about the money saved or spent. I just wanted to quit smoking. Period! I actually took the money I was going to buy a carton of smokes with and bought my first setup (eGo VV2 and a Kanger EVOD tank + juice of course). I still have it and use it quite frequently. I have since upgraded a bit on the battery side but still use the EVOD tanks for work. They have a steel casing that helps prevent breaking as I am in construction. To anyone wondering, this is a journey well worth traveling!!

It doesn't surprise me at all. Way too many people in this world are wannabe petty dictators who think they should be able to control how people live their lives.
