Been smoking for 40 years - since college. Quit once in the late '70's for two weeks in order to switch to lights from Marlboro Red. That worked, but I was still maintaining a pack a day for awhile. Over the years I have whittled it down to about 6-7 cigs a day, but if left to my own devices my baseline would still be at least a pack.
I wanted to quit inhaling harmful substances, but the fact remained that I LOVE to smoke. I tried Wellbutrin which helped me cut a few smokes out of my day and probably could have helped me quit entirely if I had the motivation - which I didn't. Did I mention I like to smoke? I originally didn't try nicotine replacement or gum because...I liked to smoke.
Then e-cigs went mainstream (sorta) but I still didn't bite because I was afraid that, since my nicotine intake per day is not great, they would take me backwards with the actual nic addiction. This is before I learned that you could vary the nicotine strength.
After I found that out it was off it the races. I looked at cig-alikes, but where were all the cool tastes
I heard tell about? Then I discovered personal vaporizors. 5 days in I love it and am (so far) off cigarettes and on 6mg nicotine. I can still inhale, exhale smoke, and hold something on my hand. Plus get my minimal amount of nicotine. E-cigs are it for me and will be even better when I train my brain that it doesn't need a tobacco cig every time in the day when we used to have a tobacco cig.
The original plan was to quit cigarettes. If that worked I might work on lowering nicotine. Well, I'm already steeping some lower nicotine stuff and my new plan is to get to 0 nic. I could vape all day, but I want to get to 0 before I do that.
