I agree with all of the points in the original post, now onto some of the other points...
Putting together a questionnaire
A questionnaire would be great if it would help, and I used to ask all those types of questions a long time ago, but I don't anymore because it is somewhat useless in my opinion. People don't know what they want until they start using electronic cigarettes, and then they change their minds once they start using them.
Another problem with asking these questions is that newbies don't answer them, or don't wait for people to process their answers when they do. They want what they think they want, and they want it yesterday, and there are plenty of people willing to tell them what they want. That will never change. You could convince every one of us in this thread to learn more about the user before suggesting something, but in one month there will be 200 new experts back to doing the same old thing, and that is who the newbies will be paying attention too.
What model to start with
If you REALLY want to make it simple, just say the 510 or the eGo and leave the KR808D-1 out of it. The 510 offers cartomizers now, and there is really no reason for the KR808D-1 to be recommended anymore in my opinion. People should be told that the 510 is more like a cigarette, and the eGo is more like a small cigar. If you get a 510 you probably will need a PCC and/or a passthrough, and now the choice is now yours.
After that they can mess around with different kinds of atomizers or cartomizers, bigger mods, LR atomizers, LR cartomizers, juice boxes, variable voltage, VG/PG ratios, and whatever else they determine they are not getting from their current device. But this is just my opinion, and I know for certain it isn't shared by everyone.
Getting the model they bought to work right
I couldn't agree more. Almost every electronic cigarette on the market can be made to work right. Half the time the problem is automatic batteries, and they can be made to work better, but it has become a lost art. And half the time the problem is wicking issues or flooding issues with atomizers, and that is something everyone needs to learn and understand no matter what model or mod they might start with.
People are constantly being told to just buy something else when they could benefit greatly from figuring out how to make what they already have work at least decently. Then they will be in a better position to make their second purchase, no matter what they started with. On the other hand, if they have money and are ready for something that doesn't look like a cigarette, then by all means start steering them to something with longer battery life and/or more power and/or larger cartridges and/or drip tips.
Abbreviations
I don't think I have ever, in 5000 posts, used a single abbreviation.
Needless to say I totally agree on this point.
Starting by suggesting mods
Only when they clearly state that they don't care what it looks like.
This is not the first time for a discussion like this. And it is admirable that we all care enough about the new users to participate and share our opinions. But it certainly isn't going to change anything. And the larger this forum gets, the less likely anything is going to change. But that doesn't mean I want to discourage anyone from bringing these issues up now and then. It might be a good idea to sticky a thread like this in fact.
