hahah yall crack me up!!..... I think after reading all this I am more confused than ever....hahaha I think I have narrowed it down though that my V4L is ok for the time being but I think I wanna go up to a EGO....We shall see. I went 10 hrs yesterday without a cig, fighting the craving the whole time, then panicked when I relized I had no cigs for todays emergency craving or with my morning coffee. I had a free coupon for a pack of Marlboros so I went and used it. I think I need a stronger ecig. Or more nic. I am nursing it as it is, pulling every 1-2 min 2-3x all day.

I nurse my lil baby all day too. I kind of prefer it that way. It keeps the ol' nic meter on "full" :p

The ecig starter kit selection quiz has been updated a lot. Thanks for the input guys! It still has typos and it won't let me change the formatting much and you have to freaking log in to use it, but I think it's ready for a beta test if anyone wants to give it a go. Helpful feedback is welcome.

Which Electronic Cigarette is right for me?

I agree with all of the points in the original post, now onto some of the other points...

Putting together a questionnaire
A questionnaire would be great if it would help, and I used to ask all those types of questions a long time ago, but I don't anymore because it is somewhat useless in my opinion. People don't know what they want until they start using electronic cigarettes, and then they change their minds once they start using them.

Another problem with asking these questions is that newbies don't answer them, or don't wait for people to process their answers when they do. They want what they think they want, and they want it yesterday, and there are plenty of people willing to tell them what they want. That will never change. You could convince every one of us in this thread to learn more about the user before suggesting something, but in one month there will be 200 new experts back to doing the same old thing, and that is who the newbies will be paying attention too.

What model to start with
If you REALLY want to make it simple, just say the 510 or the eGo and leave the KR808D-1 out of it. The 510 offers cartomizers now, and there is really no reason for the KR808D-1 to be recommended anymore in my opinion. People should be told that the 510 is more like a cigarette, and the eGo is more like a small cigar. If you get a 510 you probably will need a PCC and/or a passthrough, and now the choice is now yours.

After that they can mess around with different kinds of atomizers or cartomizers, bigger mods, LR atomizers, LR cartomizers, juice boxes, variable voltage, VG/PG ratios, and whatever else they determine they are not getting from their current device. But this is just my opinion, and I know for certain it isn't shared by everyone.

Getting the model they bought to work right
I couldn't agree more. Almost every electronic cigarette on the market can be made to work right. Half the time the problem is automatic batteries, and they can be made to work better, but it has become a lost art. And half the time the problem is wicking issues or flooding issues with atomizers, and that is something everyone needs to learn and understand no matter what model or mod they might start with.

People are constantly being told to just buy something else when they could benefit greatly from figuring out how to make what they already have work at least decently. Then they will be in a better position to make their second purchase, no matter what they started with. On the other hand, if they have money and are ready for something that doesn't look like a cigarette, then by all means start steering them to something with longer battery life and/or more power and/or larger cartridges and/or drip tips.

Abbreviations
I don't think I have ever, in 5000 posts, used a single abbreviation.
Needless to say I totally agree on this point.

Starting by suggesting mods
Only when they clearly state that they don't care what it looks like.

This is not the first time for a discussion like this. And it is admirable that we all care enough about the new users to participate and share our opinions. But it certainly isn't going to change anything. And the larger this forum gets, the less likely anything is going to change. But that doesn't mean I want to discourage anyone from bringing these issues up now and then. It might be a good idea to sticky a thread like this in fact.

Well, I can only say one thing that helped me more than anything when I found this forum (Before buying a PV)...
I read, read, and yes read some more of the different posts on this forum...I was a guest to this site in Jan 2010,
and became a member when I bought my Ego in Feb...By the time I had my Ego in Hand,,,I knew a lot of lango,,,
and other associated items concerning vaping....So, I guess the best thing I could tell any Neebie,,,is to read and
read,,,,,,before asking questions,,,Of course, that is if you have the desire to stop analogs,,,,like I did....
Enjoy the Adventure...

Respectfully snipped for brevity...

I'm going to have to disagree with this point DC2. Granted, There are now 510 cartomizers, but the kr808 has it's own fine points. I started with one and have been more than happy with it ever since, no want or need to change to a 510 or ego. I don't have to use an adapter for 808 cartomizers, they come in a wider prefilled flavor selection, and the vapor is warmer. I also get around 6 to 7 hours of vape time out of a XL battery which is approximately the same diameter as a 510, though longer. The only reason I'm looking to add to my collection is that I want a mod that I can buy separate batteries for in case a major ban comes down.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I like my 808s in colors like purple and emerald green. ;)

There have been some good points made in this thread, however I would caution you against looking at post count as a measurement of knowledge. Some of our most knowledgeable members have a pretty low post count. On the flip side, I have seen ridiculous advice posted by members with 1000+ posts.

Join date may be a slightly better indicator but even that doesn't always translate. Many knowledgeable members have "lurked" for a long time prior to actually registering on the forum. Thus they have a fairly recent join date, but can still be a credible source of information.

In short, don't judge a book by its cover.

Come to think of it, I rarely look at join date or post count unless the actual post leads me to look. Strange I haven't realized that until now. But I have seen a few ppl that are long timers, with short counts, and vice versa. Its the 1k count in 1 or 2 months that make me do a double take. Geez, I post a LOT, or so I thought, and my count is..well, not all there yet.
