I honestly think people register and post here to avoid getting the automatic response of "buy a 510". If they are here, it's probably because they saw or tried an e-cig and wanted to get informed before buying one. Don't assume newbies aren't interested in the same things more experienced users are.

There are different solutions for different people. I think a 510 for someone that smokes over a pack a day won't cut it over time. Nobody likes to charge batteries constantly especially since the PCC can't hold 2, not even newbies. My wife LOVES her 510 though, she smoked 1/2 a pack a day so it keeps up with her just fine. Also keep in mind not everyone can afford to make a purchase only to require an upgrade due to battery life problems shortly afterwards. We just need to help each person on an individual basis, and not make assumptions or push our personal preference on them.

I Made the switch to an e-cig to help with the process of quitting "smoking" also quit nic. wanted something simple to start with...Like I said the e-cig I got I think is a great starter. The e-cig is going to help me with the bad habbit of hand to mouth action.

I think alost of us new users are comming to this site more to find what gives us that alustion (sorry my spelling sucks..lmao) of more "smoke" look , From what I found and think it needs to be put in more laymans terms...Wiltons glycerin is what gives that look of smoke (vapor) all the post I see on here isn't telling us "noobies" that...I hope some of the veteran vapers can correct me if I'm wrong, if I shouldn't be using this method of just ghycerin and loranns...I do know that is has 0nic. but it is getting me by for the time being till my e-juice with nic comes in the mail...

New ppl have to learn proper terminology to understand us, much less- "I'd sport a 5V with 20% VG liquid, 18mg bobo's is good, or get an ego with LR atty from TW, and use blue fluval mod."
A simple 510, MAYBE mega bats or kr808 kits is fine to get someone STARTED....unless they specifically ask about mods.
We can all think back to our original fears and excitements about our first starter kits, lets remember that with new ppl, and happy vaping. :vapor:

Big Chief. I completely agree with you. A simple joye 510, order some extra "good" juice and see if it's going to work for you is great advice.... All that other stuff...sounds like and looks like scary wierd drug paraphenalia (sp) that only people who've been doing this, and obsessing over this for a while can even begin to pretend to understand....

Save all that mod stuff for a MOD area, not in the new members area... my .02

agree with OP...

I was very lucky....I saw an add on tv...and started researching...that lead me here...and after reading for 1000 hours..realized ppl here could help...Most recommended the Riva & Ego...went w/ the Riva ..and haven't smoked an analog since..even when I forgot my newly charged batty once and the one with me died...30 min ride home sucking on hard candy...I was ok...Because in my mind ..I wanted to keep saying .."Haven't smoked since I got my Riva"...I have since ordered a mod or two.(or three)..But only after the Riva saved me...I AM still a noob...and still learning from this forum..Great ppl..and good advice...Basically...I DON'T regret my first purchase.(very important)..and it worked...Very happy ECF member...Happy Vaping...:vapor:

Oh ..yes...buy some juice w/ first order...

I really found the new member forum to be quite overwhelming when I came here. I had no idea what a 510 or an ego or a Riva was and the terminology just gave me a massive headache. Then people started talking about dripping and mods and bats and carts. I was LOST because I didn't know or understand the terminology.

So now when I see new folks with questions I try not to give them advice on specific models right off the bat. I send them to the ECF library and tell them to read until they have a basic understanding....then come back and ask more specific questions. It took me three weeks to feel like I had enough info under my belt to make a good decision. There really isn't anything intuitive about these things....it's like being in another country where you don't speak the language! But fortunately for all of us, this forum has everything we need to learn.

New Ego/Riva/Tornado kit and some extra juice. got it!

maybe a couple of extra attys.. They are good to go!

Make it easy is the key word..

that is the best advice you can give right there.... doesn't scare or intimidate a new user.... although they may be wondering why they are going to need extra attorney's...

i always recommend people should read their own stuff but I have to admit alot of the info i've gotten has been helpful so far. I'm a week into this exclusively dripping and ripping out the bridges of my atty's thanks to these people and lol it's done wonders.

I gotta say my first choice was an eGo and i ordered 510 battery separete and it is either defective or the battery life on 510's is worse than i thought it would be after reading.. so i do tend to think some people would be interested in buying something that isn't going to frustrate them the first time. maybe if you want to do the cheapest test you can...buy 1 510 battery + charger + atomizer + cart or drip tip and go from there.. but for the battery life i've seen riva kits that sell for a bit cheaper than some sites sell 510 starters. and over all as a first time buyer i don't see a need for anything else.. i probably didn't even need the usb passthru i got but at least that's several trips less to the charger plugged into the wall :) i think maybe it's time to consider the 510 a thing of the past but hey i could be wrong. I might turn this battery that dies after 2 minutes of puffing into a passthru for my car or something. if i can figure out how.

all i'm saying is if i had gone for a smaller battery i would've ended up spending more money on something with more battery life later on! heck im too fresh to be speaking about mods and all that. No regrets from the eGo.

I just explain the 510 and then mention that most of us who start with a 510 eventually move up to the Ego, which is compatible with 510 parts except for the charger and the battery lasts 6-8 hours. Then I mention that it is a good thing to have both the 510 and the Ego kit because you can load up each with different juices and switch as desired. I still use both.

Oh, and you will average 2-3ml of juice per day, so stock up. Those 5 prefilled carts will only get you through a day or two at best. Click the search icon and enter "juice reviews" to find discussions on what's best.

They can find out about LR attys and passthroughs later. They won't need the passthrough if they buy the Ego.

I think buying a kit is a great idea... A little more expensive and you get a few things you don't always use, but everyone is different... Personally I know I would never have spent money on fruity flavors, if my kit hadn't come with a bunch of samples in it.... I smoked up all my tobacco flavors first, then tried the foo foo flavors....Like most everyone else I didn't think I was going to like them, in fact I felt slightly ripped off when I saw "Strawberry Bubblegum", "Pina Colada" and "Michigan Cherry" in those little bottles.... Turned out to be some of my favorites...

Baby steps.....baby steps.....

Although there are days I really need that tobacco flavor fix... Wyatt Earp is wonderful....

I picked up a No 7 before finding this forum, immediately switched to an 808 after reading the excellent writeup on best e-cig for a newbie. Been very happy with the 808, stopped smoking very quickly.

Frankly, I still like the 808 cigarette form factor, and with a PCC it's plenty for all day use. I do have an XL battery, too, for loaning to people to try it out.

KISS works for me -- I was interested in stopping smoking, simply.

But there is a good chance that you wouldn't have even considered an ecig if it was a big bat box that didn't look and feel like a cigarette.

I know that would have been true for me. I smoked less at home and in the office and more when out and about. I don't think I would have gone to a local watering hole and started vaping on something that looked more like a futuristic pipe and less like a tarditional cig.

Some of us do like the super mini, even 13 months in, I love mine. maybe I just got a truly decent super mini model, but other than prefilled carts being lousy, it's great so, I wouldn't tell a new comer not to try one. Everyone is different, so what works perfectly for you might fail miserably for them. I think it's best to explain and yes, recomend what you like, but be clear that it is thier choice and, they have to find what suits them.

I was off my cigs with a mega titan kit. I still use mainly my mega titans, and occasionally the SD with LR atty. Momma hooked me up for christmas, and it worked great when I started, and still does. I'm sure we remember those mega titans at TW for $130.00, went on sale for $99. Mind you, I was a 2 pack day smoker. It helps explaining to ppl standard batts last 2 hours, mega goes 4, even for me. But they were comfortable, and worked, and I loved the look first and formost. The mods only came because I saw so much press, and had to try them. I still need an ego kit though, with LR 510. But the trusty mega 510 has been with me for 10 months, as my second model, the super was first. 510's also go over pretty well when showing others, as we all do in all the excitement of showing off a new toy. Thats worth considering as well. Friends and family that HAVENT read the threads will be giving opinions to recent newbies, and I'd hate to see them discouraged because they have a great PV that doesnt appeal to new users. When I first got my SD, I was in that position at the family functions, and was a bit shamed for useing it. Now, different story, but back then, I was the only one in the fam that had e cigs, and was serious about them. Now, I can at least put the SD side by side with a normal marb light looking 510, and explain the differences. When you have that traditional setup that is easy to comprehend, and looks appealing to the masses, when you break out the monstrosity, your an experienced user with good cause, not a mad scientist. E cigs are still ground floor in the ol US here. Its growing, but we still have a LOT of ppl that want that e cig to look like a marb. I still remember my first impressions when I read this thread...E-cig News: A run-down of all the big battery model e-cigarettes on the market
It was a little bit of OOOOMMMGGG!!!:p

Being new to it all, vaping since 7/16, I read and read the forums before buying. I decided on the eGo thanks to all the advice and I couldn't be happier. The suggestion I have when replying to the new user is don't abbreviate seller names. When you say, I suggest you go buy from PS they have great prices or VB has great juice. I would read that and go and search the suppliers forum to try to match initials with seller names. Putting PS in Google doesn't work
