I just think it should be said...
When someone that doesn't currently own an ecig, wants advise on where to start, can we NOT try to hand out college textbooks to kindergartners.
Everyone is helpful here, and we love sharing experience. But If someone had handed me a site for a 5V mod, not knowing the differences, or having ANY experience, I wouldve ran. Though most of us don't like the "super mini's", and junk models, these are what peaked our curiosity. Lets all remember that "comfort factor" of taking that first step to giving up our analogs.
New ppl have to learn proper terminology to understand us, much less- "I'd sport a 5V with 20% VG liquid, 18mg bobo's is good, or get an ego with LR atty from TW, and use blue fluval mod."
A simple 510, MAYBE mega bats or kr808 kits is fine to get someone STARTED....unless they specifically ask about mods.
We can all think back to our original fears and excitements about our first starter kits, lets remember that with new ppl, and happy vaping. :vapor:

I agree totally. I usually try to tell people about v4l stuff because it is what is most like smoking for a new person and easy to use.
I personally don't order from them any more but that is only after finding out things on my own. I do still ike thier cartos and batteries but I have out grown the juice. To me if someone has never tried any juice V4L is good stuff to start with.
Now if the person has read till thier eyes are bleeding , I will talk about eGo's and 510 's and etc etc.

I agree with you about the whole mod thing, and have expressed that opinion several times, usually to be shouted down. I will continue to recommend the eGo or RiVa as I believe they eliminate the frustration that a lot of people experienced with the short-lived batteries of their 510s. Also, probably, because I have a soft spot for them as they are what I started on. But picking the right mod is based on what exactly it is that you need from vaping, and until you've had one in your hand and had some experience, you're not going to know what it is you need. Like you, had I started with something the size of a tailpipe that required a screwdriver and a voltmeter to use, it would be under the bed with my clapper, the shamWow!, and my thigh master.

Correct!

And please always advise to get some juice with starter kit.
If I would get juice with my first kit, I wouldn't come back to analogs and could be completely smoke free.
(got on ecig right away, was smoke free for 2 days and than run out of supplies. My second attempt wasn't so easy and now I'm smoking 3-5 analogs per day. It's better than 20...)

Actually I wish I had been told about mods before buying my first e- cig. It took me about a week to grow to hate constantly changing batteries on a 510 and would have saved about $100 and a month of smoking analogs if I had known about mods to start with. Maybe thats just me, but I would never go back to using a 510 battery unless it was all I had. Just my opinion your welcome to yours.

I think that's something else the Chinese got right. Aside from the flavors, most people could start with 18mg and not worry about cutting and measuring right off the bat.

But there is a good chance that you wouldn't have even considered an ecig if it was a big bat box that didn't look and feel like a cigarette.

I agree. Frankly it's confusing enough for a newb learning to properly use a 510, let alone ohms, chemical formulas and the like.

I've recommended a stock 510 with manual batteries and an extra bottle of juice to anyone who has asked me about vaping. If they want to eventually upgrade it's up to them. Nothing is more unappealing than having complex information thrown at you when all you want to know is the bare basics. Personally that would have turned me away instantly.

Good topic.

Good call. Can't believe I forgot that..
I always try to get the "what you smoke, how much, and lifestyle?" info from new ppl. Experienced ppl will know what will start well, and lessen trouble, even if not perfect. We all wanted that CIG feeling at first. What was perfect was the feeling of "this MIGHT ACTUALLY WORK"..we critiqued from there. :)

Truthfully, if you had a mod to start, and wondered about maybe something a lil smaller, then tried the 510, you'd think you just got hosed. But understanding the importance of battery life, that mod was appreciated immediately wasn't it. :p

I would advise newbies to go with Riva/Ego type units to start just for the battery life issue but as stated those just starting out have a different view. Many seek the traditional cigarette size/shape because thats is what they are used to (just as I did in the begining).

All good advice here, is always a good idea to not overload. If its an individual that has the ambition to delve further, they will do so and ask for the info.

one thing I would let people know though, is to keep open momded about everything. I think it is helpful to do so because many times you will find down the road after you start getting into vaping that what you thought you wanted really isn't. It would help those that have experience to be open minded to the needs and position of those just starting out too.

Actually I have had 6 people that smoke try my box mod and my 510. I do explain to them the difference and they have all wanted to try the 510 first. All 6 tried my box mod after trying my 510 and 5/6 wanted to get the box mod only 1 wanted a 510 because she thought it looked more like a real cig. I gave all 6 this web address and the web address of the cheapest place to get a 510 and the cheapest place to get a box mod. I think it depends on the person and unfortunately when were giving advice a person can't try the product.

Its the INITIAL setup that I'M talking about. They can find all the info they could possibly want right here. But you cant take away their cig, hand em a SD or a box mod and convince them its better, and their new cig. Its just not in the same league. The simple sticks at least resemble their soon to be former best buddies. Sure, they will get over it in a week or a month, but they must first accept the concept of vaping first and foremost. Then they can learn all the variety these lil dity's hold. Before ya know it, their tweaking atties, modding carts, and posting threads like these :p

Which is exactly why they should start with something that is both simple to use and effective. While the people you know had the opportunity to try them side by side, the people I know, who have had to just look rather than try since I don't own one, were more mocking of the whole idea of vaping on a cigar box.

In addition, the price of a good mod can be daunting, especially to someone who has has already dropped a chunk of change on patches, inhalers, gum, Chantix, hypnosis, acupuncture, and everything else. Spend $50 to assure yourself that this will work before investing $200 (if you count the mod, the batteries, and the charger).

My Opinion is...(being a 2 week user of an e-cig is.) If someone is just starting out. I would recomend the NO.7 I have the the black one. I absolutly love it...Long battery life. (all day) quick charge The carts are easily refillable. I made the mistake of not getting any premade e-liquide...So I had to research on my own how to make the stuff...I was surprised that I could use wiltons glycerine and loranns flavorings...I did just a few drops of glycerin and a couple drops of peppermint. and a drop or two of water. Had and awsome vapor all day long and great flavor...

I am looking into the joye 510 but I keep reading that alot of people are complaining of a low battery life...My battery on my No7 is a automatic (no button) I don't want to convert to a manual battery if its not going to last me all day on one charge..

When I started vaping two weeks ago, all I was looking for was something to replace cigarettes and help me quit. The first one I bought was crap, but it did put me on the right track, so I try not to look down my nose at it.

When I advise anyone, I simply tell them I bought a 510, which I still use, but after a week I bought an eGo because of the 510 battery issues. With that info, they can decide for themselves. I also make a point of advising people to buy good juice, because I was burned myself on that very issue. The juice I order with the 510 was useless, and almost made me give up.

And the last thing I do is recommend that people start with low-medium nicotine and if necessary, move up, rather than starting high.

Sue,

I got a 510 kit which came with 1 auto and 1 manual battery. The life on both is the same - about 2 hours max.

Also, later on, you can buy an eGo battery and charger for the 510, and voila!, you have an eGo. Everything is identical on the 2 models, apart from the battery/charger and the eGo cone (which only costs a few bucks).
