Iagree with BC. When I started I got an EGO. It wasnt what I was looking for. I needed something that felt like a cig. so I got an KR808 from V4L and never looked back. Sold both of the EGO's I had and went from there. Still use my 808 when I travel just because I dont want to lose anything. But now I can say Im done buying devices. Ive found what I want. Expect maybe a Mini Reo. Then Ill be done. LMAO!!!!!!

I always hand new potential users a V4L card, with the full understanding that they will probably move on to something bigger if the hook grabs.

They sell one model that works pretty reliably, they have a boatload of flavors to try, and if you can screw in a lightbulb, you've got all the skills necessary to get started. Obviously it's not an END point, but it will get most people started in the simplest way possible, without requiring a PhD.

I still think new users should be informed of the differences in battery life. Most of the people I have ask me questions about my e-cig, end up liking the looks of the eGo. I show them a 510 and explain the difference between the two. Almost all of the people end up wanting the Ego. I really don't think "looks like a cigarette" is as important to people as they think, its just hard for them to grasp looking at pictures on the net.

As long as realistic claims are made of each product, new users will be able to make educated choices. I think that big battery mods should be left out of new user discussions though, sometimes too many options is a bad thing. Referring them here is probably the best bet, although more info on the Ego/Riva should be added since its a great starting PV.

Abreviating supplier names is another good one. Posts about any company should have the ENTIRE .com as subject line.
I don't use any abbreviations in any of my posts.
Mainly so I can search for them later if I want to repost them.

It's a lot easier than saying the same thing over and over again.
:)

This is an excellend thread, we needed someone to step up and make a stand on this. I did recently see a noob (not unlike myself) where they indicated they could make a pack of analogs last 2-3 days and there were numerous posts by one user who went on and on about mods, and heavy hitting devices. I posted what I'd purchased to date with the prices paid and felt this type of info would be helpful.

If they are more informed and take time to look at review of each model and what they are capable in terms of battery life, liquid storage, they'll be able to make a informed decision of what suits them best.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think we need to ask more questions before bombarding them with overload, whadya think?

Also a good article recently posted in the general forum to read would be;

I say keep it simple to start. Most ppl on here wouldve never taken it seriously if it didnt have the same comfort as their cigs starting out. We learned to fly planes before we landed on the moon. You simply cant put the cart before the horse. First units, unless specifically asked about, should always be standard models. Once they have a few days of experience, they will KNOW a lot more about what ppl mean, or what they want to fix. Short of seeing a mod in person, and comparing those to standard units first hand, mods will simply scare ppl, especially with the cost. First units must be easy, satisfying, and intriguing. A simple 510 or 808 makes it easy, and assures that first impressions are great ones. :)

as a new user I would also like to add, that a new user might be made aware of possible store front (brick and mortar) stores that they can go to. If they look in sub-forum local groups or suppliers. as a very hands on kinda of person They may want to see in person, or is nervous about ordering online:) I was amazed at how many locals were selling in my area also that there are other users that are holding Meetings ETC. I found the group from PHX AZ by mistake much to my benifit :) also when looking up on the "yellow pages" none of the locals were listed unders smoking shops or ecig tags.... in the viphoenix group there was a thread about local suppliers and there is atleast one store front with in a reasonable drive for me. so im super excited to go and SHOP!!! instant gratification baby... as well as sales staff that are users ... and question fielders:)

I just think it should be said...
When someone that doesn't currently own an ecig, wants advise on where to start, can we NOT try to hand out college textbooks to kindergartners.
Everyone is helpful here, and we love sharing experience. But If someone had handed me a site for a 5V mod, not knowing the differences, or having ANY experience, I wouldve ran. Though most of us don't like the "super mini's", and junk models, these are what peaked our curiosity. Lets all remember that "comfort factor" of taking that first step to giving up our analogs.
New ppl have to learn proper terminology to understand us, much less- "I'd sport a 5V with 20% VG liquid, 18mg bobo's is good, or get an ego with LR atty from TW, and use blue fluval mod."
A simple 510, MAYBE mega bats or kr808 kits is fine to get someone STARTED....unless they specifically ask about mods.
We can all think back to our original fears and excitements about our first starter kits, lets remember that with new ppl, and happy vaping. :vapor:

I do agree with some of that. I came here when i was new and was very overwhelmed. I got the 808 starter kit. I liked it but within a week i realised that I needed something better with longer battery life. I really think that I would have been better off with an ego or something along those lines than spending the $ on a kit that batteries needed constant charging, etc. Don't get me wrong I am thrilled for the help that I have received and glad that I got my VK. just didn't use it long and $ would have been better spent on a better model. Not a box mod just better battery life and staying with simplicity of use.

For those starting out and living on the west coast I highly recommend the xhale02, now available in most 7-11's. They are fine for starting up. It is how I started (one month ago) and to this day I have no complaints with the kit. What problems I did have were due to running the cart near empty, so that is all fixed now. I know eventually the enthusiast will want to move on, but for the money and simplicity these kits are a good deal for the beginner and they cost less than xhale's site price.

I say keep it simple to start

An employee of mine has just started out on the Xhale02. She likes them well enough but misses the soft cushy kind of feeling on her lips of a regular filter. She says it seems like she is smoking a pipe or a plastic-tipped cigar. Anyone know a work-around?

Well, I've started with ultimate manual VK about 6 weeks ago and still using it.

Now I feel like it's time to move to next level: box mod and juices .

Do I fell sorry I didn't start with JourneyMan right away? YES!
Do I fell sorry I didn't start with EM Riva? Mostlikely
Would I listen 6 weeks ago and buy something not looking like analog? NO!
I'm happy I've got VK from V4L instead of some junk? YES!

What is my next toy to be? - Ali'i Custom Mod

I have spent many hours here before registering, and i am still trying to figure out the difference of a cartomizer, and its benefits over my atomizers and the 50 pack of empty carts I just ordered. I will save that question for my own thread, and when I become a grown up in here with more than 5 posts.

Ill answer godzilla...
There are pros and cons to all units, all atties. Once you know how they work, and how to work them properly, not many of them have issues, they are just a preference. Some like to refil less, but like flavor more than throat hit..thats a cartomiser. Those that prefer good throat hit, massive vapor, but will sacrifice a slight difference in flavor and more refils daily, will go attomiser, depending on model. Its a world of choices. But each work well at doing their duties they were designed to do. It just boils down to your personal likes and dislikes. Its only when you dont know the proper care and use of your pv's that you have issues on a consistant basis. Once you have chosen your PV, you learn it, and learn it well. Then venture into others to improve what area you like. Ive found that most ppl that prefer cartomisers either started using them as their first kit, or gave up on attomisers and it was the only other option to dripping. But I use both depending on mood. They both work well, but for specific reasons.
