I use single wire Kanthal. There are more of us than seems since this is more of a hobbyist forum. I think single coil/Kanthal users are just keeping it simple.

I don't know if there is a significant difference. I would speculate that a tight coil would heat up minisculey faster.

Hopefully someone will come along with 30 minute technical video. May find something on YouTube.

Good luck with your vaping.

You will probably get more opinions on this one than facts, but I'll try to point out a few.

Contact coils are probably more popular. Some might say they are easier to make, but they certainly take more time and work to get firing correctly. Spaced are possibly more popular for temperature control (wire that is not Kanthal).

You can do either of them, and I recommend trying both.

I have kanthal wire.just putting that out there. anyways to the heart of the matter. there are two kinds of single wire coils I know of the spaced coil and the closed coil. what does each do? whats the difference?
Make 'em both
Vape 'em both
You decide what works best for you.
I make/use spaced coils in some devices and touching in others.

Have fun

I have and I really can't tell. Is one for clouds and the other for flavor? if that is so which one is which?

IMO, No.
They are both suitable for clouds and/or flavour.
When I recoil the wife CL-r's, I make contacts with 28awg ss316, for my Calix v3, I make spaced with 26awg ss316. Both seem to provide excellent flavour.
I'm not sure there is a hard and fast rule.

cheers
