When people ask what you're "smoking", how do you respond?

Like what's the best quick answer if you don't have the time nor the inclination to go into detail? What do you tell the average person your device is called?

I wouldn't consider a box mod with a tank an "electronic cigarette". They're not in cigarette form. It's just as much an e-cig as it is an e-pipe or an e-hookah. It's none of those things.

I've had people ask me with sort of a grin like they think I'm doing some type of illegal drug. Most people only know about things like blu e-cigs so they really have no idea what I'm "smoking".

I just tell them "It's not smoke, it's vapor, and this one is spearmint. I used to smoke and now I do this instead."

I say this whether or not the juice is spearmint. Spearmint is just something that everyone has a familiarity with and it conotes "fresh", "pleasant", "wouldn't hurt a flea", and "nicer than smoking". They can easily imagine how inhaling spearmint vapor could be a good thing. Boba's Bounty is too cryptic. Pear marzipan torte is too fey.

I tell them I used to smoke because, well, I did, and to imply that this is something serious to me (which it kinda is). No trivial fad follower, me.

If they ask questions beyond that, cool beans. If they offer 'helpful' feedback like "those things are as bad as cigarettes" I tell them "I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that you've prolly spent about 30 seconds thinking about this whereas I've spent hours and hours reading up on it - lemme tell ya, you've been fed a tabloid headline and what you've been told is no more true than Robert Downey jr being an alien".

I wish more people would ask me, to tell you the truth.

Just say:

"I'm vaping "deadly sin". Doesn't it smell awesome?"
(Of course, replace "deadly sin" with whatever you're actually vaping, although you should be vaping deadly sin, IMHO ;-) ).

If you sense that the question is confrontational, you can always add:

"It really helps get rid of that urge I get to just kill someone at random. Know what I mean?"

LOL at some of the answers. I try to explain that it's not "smoke". I told a friend I quit smoking and showed him what I do now, and he swears I'm still "smoking" and haven't quit at all.

When people see you holding a weird device and making clouds at break they tend to wonder. Vaping doesn't seem to be popular around here. We have no vape shops that I know of. Some places that sell cigarettes have a small selection of el-cheapo e-cigs and juice (usually basic flavors like menthol and cherry), but I've yet to see a shop that specializes in it. Gotta get all my stuff online.

Well if somebody asks me what I'm smoking, I'll say, almost exactly, "nothing". Now if someone asks me, "whatcha got in that thing?", I'll go into detail. Such as: what flavor(s) of juice(s) I've mixed, the nic level of the base juice, the PG/VG ratio of each juice (using the letters PG and VG, like it's some kind of rating.. )
