When we say clone we really mean fake - don't we?

I'm very new to the MOD scene and have spent endless hours reading up and researching on the web. I live in Hong kong (where vaping is illegal) but a quick trip across by the border into Shenzhen (by metro) really opens up a whole world of quite amazing fake goods. Handbags, watches, clothes etc, and I don't mean the crappy tourist rubbish you can buy in Thailand etc, but really astonishingly good quality stuff so long as you know what you're looking at!

So having just bought a kayfun Lite and Stingray clone as my first proper setup I began to think about the whole fake market! As a former fake watch aficionado for many years I can't help but wonder if it's funding criminal cartels the same way the fake watch and other fake industry does? So given how much I spend on cigarettes I decided to buy a genuine rba and MOD (Squape R and VA Phenom) instead to at least support the innovators of this possibly life saving alternative to cigarettes!!

Since there are clones of these already available I wonder what your thought's on this are?

There are fakes and there are clones, the two can intermingle but clones don't hide where they come from and fakes do. In many ways, this is a responsbility of the seller and how it's represented.

products marked clearly as clones are copy. like copy of well known art being sold everywhere as print or copy. when a product is being sold as authentic when it's not, that's fake. yeah.. it's splitting hair, but that's way i see it.

I look at it this way:

A clone is a device made to the same specifications, and with the same functionality of the original device, but without original markings or with its own unique markings (Manhattan/Fuhattan, for example, or the "logo-less" devices one runs across sometimes).

A fake is one that bears the same markings as the original.

A counterfeit is a fake that a seller is trying to pass off as an original.

Of course, that's just my opinion, and I'm often wrong.

Technically e-cigarettes were invented by the Chinese, so all these American, European, etc...companies which are designing e-cigarettes are actually violating the Chinese patent - if there is a patent. So dont feel guilty for buying a clone. I know my wallet feels better when i tell it that.

some "clones" or copies I prefer to use are good some are crap.

I tried out those lil iStick "copies" clones that Slowtech has at our local B&M yesterday the carbon fiber one was nice, and I noticed NO difference from my "authentic" iStick.

I'm not a label wh *behaving for moderators*anyways, if it works or is made well I like it..if it's garbage I don't.

Cigs still legal but huge tax hike expected this year. HK$75 per pack expected but still cheaper than UK and US!

And that's the thing - most clones do have the original markings but are marketed as clones, despite the fact they're really fakes. I guess maybe the big difference between a fake Rolex and a fake Nemesis is that Rolex have trademarked/copyrighted/patented their name!

I never buy "Kleenex". I always buy the store brand tissues. They are still tissues, not imaginary or fake. They work fine to blow my nose and wipe off vape gear. My tissues are clones.

I have a few of them, i read the reviews and if it appears to be a good purchase I give it a try. I want a nice satisfying vape period. If it helps keep me from breaking my 2 years without a cigarette run then I will buy it... clone or original it makes no matter to me...

I really dont care who makes a new tube with a 510 connection... its not new tech... the idea was from a flashlight.

The Silo tank is its own design but uses nautilus coils... The atlantis tank looks like it ripped off its airflow design from the silo tank which is a 3rd party version of a nautilus tank.

Who cares... the consumer benefits... the vape is good...

Actually my question was more about the morals of buying a clone of a known brand that someone has spent time and money investing in the development of, especially given how much most of us spend or have spent on cigarettes, since without the original makers there would be no clones, and these days there's a lot of criticism about Chinese made goods especially from the US! The Chinese companies in Baoan Shenzhen are hardly innovators, with the exception of the inventor of the eGig and maybe one or two other companies, most are just small workshops that have jumped onto the vaping bandwagon by simply copying stuff to make a buck!! If you ever visit China you'd know what I mean!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Herbert A. Gilbert. Patented the smokeless non-tobacco cigarette in 1963 http://www.ecigarettedirect.co.uk/ashtray-blog/2013/10/interview-inventor-e-cigarette-herbert-a-gilbert.html which takes China back to the Great wall or fireworks as as the last original concept idea to come out of China.

I buy clones. I try to get the unbranded ones as I like the cleaner look and it seems wrong to slap someone else's logo on your product. When buying clones I accept that it is the same design as the authentic with cheaper parts and low or no quality assurance. Paying $10-20 for a clone atty instead of 50-150 for an authentic means I can try more.
I got a Hana clone for 120 when the authentics were selling for 250. I figured if the chip was garbage I could spend another 50 and upgrade it to an Evolv chip. I've had it for 6+ months and it's still working as expected. I couldn't afford 250 for a mod at that time.
I have bought an authentic Reo Grand LP (well, my wife got it for me for Christmas) and I plan to buy a few authentic bf RDAs for it, but I bought the clone first to try out. I think I will start buying more authentics now since I know what I like. When buying egos I bought the higher quality joye or vision egos over the no brand ones, but with egos the difference was like $10 instead of 100+. I would prefer to buy authentics, but I simply cannot afford it. That is becoming less of a factor as time goes on as brands like innokin and pioneer for you are putting out decent quality mods with the larger feature set for a reasonable sub $100 price.

according to ECF guidelines a clone means something similar.
has a bat,tubular shaped and a switch=clone.
looks exactly the same or 1.1 copy is a counterfeit whether they claim so or not.
just saying this is an certain style this or that does not change the legal definition
of a fake product.
what confuses the issue is that products that originated in China enjoy no
legal protection and they all copy each other freely and with no apparent objection.
the problem here is mostly when it comes to mods made here or else where besides
China and then copied by the Chinese and sold in the style or type of.
