Ok, I started this so here goes, 21 years of active federal service 83-2003. Served during all the conflicts of the last 30 years, Iran, Afghanistan, Granada, Panama..... Started out as a grunt, could type so changed to radio teletype (dating myself), signal reorganized and I realized I couldn't get promoted, I mentioned I could type, reclassed to personnel, still couldn't get promoted, reclassed to UAVs and retired an Instructor at the school house. I still work in UAVs as a civilian (ewww) contractor. Spent 2.5 years in the Iraqi sandbox and 3 in Afghanistan getting rocketed every day, the fun times. Glad the army decided to chime in as I thought the other services were going to take over this forum. To those who are currently serving in parts unknown, thank you for what you do and God bless. Keep your heads down and stay safe!

I have found this to be fairly accurate to my experience, as well as humorous.
I still have plenty of ammo and coffee....

Marine Corps Rules:
1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.
3. Have a plan.
4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.
5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet even your friends…
6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4."
7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral & diagonal preferred.)
9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot.

Navy SEAL's Rules:
1. Look very cool in sunglasses.
2. Kill every living thing within view.
3. Adjust speedo.
4. Check hair in mirror.

US Army Rangers Rules:
1. Walk in 50 miles wearing 75 pound rucksack while starving.
2. Locate individuals requiring killing.
3. Request permission via radio from "Higher" to perform killing.
4. Curse bitterly when mission is aborted.
5. Walk out 50 miles wearing a 75 pound rucksack while starving.

US Army Rules:
1. Curse bitterly when receiving operational order.
2. Make sure there is extra ammo and extra coffee.
3. Curse bitterly.
4. Curse bitterly.
5. Do not listen to 2nd LT's; it can get you killed.
6. Curse bitterly.

US Air Force Rules:
1. Have a cocktail.
2. Adjust temperature on air-conditioner.
3. See what's on HBO.
4. Ask "what is a gunfight?"
5. Request more funding from Congress with a "killer" Power Point presentation.
6. Wine & dine 'key' Congressmen, invite DOD & defense industry executives.
7. Receive funding, set up new command and assemble assets.
8. Declare the assets "strategic" and never deploy them operationally.
9. Hurry to make 13:45 tee-time.
10. Make sure the base is as far as possible from the conflict but close enough to have tax exemption.

US Navy Rules:
1. Go to Sea.
2. Drink Coffee.
3. Deploy Marines

Reminds my of the varying meaning of the word 'secure'.

Tell the Air Force to secure a building, they bomb it into oblivion

Say that to the Marines and you get a full scale amphibious landing.

Tell the Army to secure a building and they set up a perimeter.

Tell the Navy to secure a building and they turn out the lights, lock the door, and go home.

You really need to know who you are talking to when you use some words.

So I hate to be that guy, I love the support we show each other, but we all need to be aware of what we are putting on here. I know we are comfortable with each other, and many of us are friends, but we still need to be careful, if I know what you do, or what you used to do for the Army, and I need to know that, its nothing to track someone down on the internet, especially when we put things like where we live and work.

Currently stationed in Germany, and it makes it vaping pretty interesting. Either wait two weeks for vape mail or stumble into a German vape shop and hope between their English and my German that we can figure out what I am trying to do. I've noticed up north its a lot better, but down here in Bavaria, English is pretty hit or miss. I really need to work on my German.

Definitely. I loved being in Germany. Baumholder was a blast, because it was so close to everything fun! Sometimes I still find myself asking the old guys I was with if we want to go to K-town for the weekend. I would get on an online translator, and print out a couple phrases I would use or think I might need, and that usually helped with the language barrier. That being said, 4 years in the Army today. Gonna make me up some more juice, and crack open a few cold ones later.

Reminds me of an experience in Desert Storm. This was before the proliferation of easy online access and mega information flow.

Our chain of command had issued "useful phrase" lists, with warm sentiments like "Lay down your weapons. I am an American."

One of our cooler Lieutenants was actually fluent in Arabic and provided us with morale boosting alternative phrases like, "The bread and water are fine, thank you." and "If you don't harm my genitals, I will tell you anything."

Just catching up since my last post.

To all who made it home, welcome home. To all now in harms way, stay safe. To all, past or present service people, thanks for your service to our country.

REAR, n. In American military matters, that exposed part of the army that is nearest to Congress.

I was in the UK for three. Drizzly, black ice...just not a place for a bike. I've always had a larger bike, I'm glad I didn't take a motorcycle there. They said it rains a lot, but its not a lot of rain. It just drizzles, stays cloudy and foggy.

Where was your sense of adventure?!! I took my rig there (with sidecar). Was rather interesting having the chair on the wrong side of the bike. :D

I was Active Duty '97-00 down in Ft Hell....Hood as a 19k with the 10th Cav 4th ID, came home and joined the Reserves from 2000 to 2011 with a trip out to Iraq in 04-05 as a 88M running gun trucks. Bar none the best days of my life and I sorely miss the days on the Abrams! I wanted to be a lifer, switch my MOS to 68w which I believe was Combat Medic now turned into Healthcare Specialist..... but it was just getting too political and heavy with BS so out I went! Now I'm an EMT running with a "Air Force" vet.....I just face palm when he starts talking about his time as an MP.....

Regardless of branch and MOS......a big thank you and attaboy to all of y'all for keeping us safe and watching our backs!
