Organic cotton doesn't have any chemicals. CVS brand organic cotton is whitened without the use of bleach and done naturally. It doesn't hurt to boil it but drying it out can be a pain. I don't boil mine and get by just fine.

Organic Cotton is grown "organically" using only organic chemicals. Yes, some pesticides are organic, it does not mean it is good for you. If the cotton is brilliant white they are whitening it with either bleach or hydrogen peroxide. I use sterile rolled cotton, or organic cotton balls, or regular ole Q-tips, or yarn. I do not boil anything. I even pick it right out of the field and use without boiling because I happen to live near some cotton fields. It is all the same to me, I have the taste buds of a smoker for 35 years, tastes like vapor unless I have too much cotton in there.

I use cotton mainly because for me it is easier to work with, I do use silica or eko wool in some builds, I also use SS mesh in some builds. It all depends on how "fiddly" I feel when I sit down to do a build.

I bought organic cotton balls at Walgreens it says they were whitened with hydrogen peroxide should I boil them?

Natalie ;)

Yes, 5-10 minutes...rense with water...reboil for another 5-10minutes... at the second boil, you shouldn't notice near as much white foam like bubbles coming out of them.

I highly recommend rolled cotton. Unless, you have to have "organic."

I'm just going to sit back and smile at all the White cotton theorist.

Do you really thing Boiling is going to make a difference due to whitening with Peroxide or even bleach?
Boiling might remove anything from final Processing to packaging like fine particulates of clean cotton but it does nothing about the whitening process. That has been completed.

Sterile should give you a hint - Whitening is NOT the final step in the process before packaging.

Think I'm gonna go with some sterile cotton. I'm too impatient to take the time to boil it. If it's safe enough, so to speak, to put in/on a wound or in mouth or wherever! Then it should be just fine to use right out if the package. Good point...

Yeah, between that and the miniscule amount of cotton needed for a wick just seems too irrelevant (to me) to worry about boiling any remaining H2O2 or other bleaching agent out of it.
I don't worry too much about inhaling any residual chlorine in the steam from a shower or at a indoor pool where the odor of chlorine is overbearing so I don't worry much about any in the wick.

I have boiled cotton, also used un-boiled and I can't taste any improvement either way so I personally don't sweat it.

So Wally World didn't have sterile cotton rolls or cottons balls. I didn't get the cotton balls instead I got peaches and cream white yarn. I guess I'll just have to boil it. I really don't want to inhale bleach but hey I'm sure it's in a stinky anyhow....

I don't know for sure if chlorine is used in some cotton for bleaching, but as long as it says on the package "Whitened with Hydrogen Peroxide" then I'm good to go...
FYI... Q-Tips make excellent, although more expensive substitutes. Peel a bit of cotton off the tip, being careful to not pull it all off, don't want to get any of the adhesive in there... and you're good.
I always keep some Q-Tips in my kit for cleaning the hard to reach areas around the 510 connection.

If you're building contact coils (all of the wraps are touching, this includes microcoils, nanocoils, and minicoils as they are usually built with all of the wraps touching), cotton all the way no matter what type of atomizer you're building. If you are just wrapping a coil and none of the wraps are touching then, cotton in drippers, ss mesh in gennys, and silica in everything else.
