many models use AAA sized batteries, but they are not normal AAA batteries. They are 3.6 volt lithium batteries.., normal rechargeable AAA's are 1.5 volt.

Imo the smallest and best "mod" is puresmokers protege.. its 3 1/2 inches long, and smaller than a dime diameter. The battery it uses is AA size 3.7v 900mah, which is 5 times battery life of a normal ecig.

The Protege looks good. Wish there was a video on it, so I could actually see overall size. Looks like they use China-made attys still? When is someone in the US going to start making the parts? You'd think some electronics manufacturer would have jumped on making the attys & batteries already! They could sell them individually as random parts - not as e-cigs.

nevermind..this forum is resizing my pics.. just download the pic to your harddrive, use the 901 and resize till your actual 901 fits the pic perfectly..
You could also use the 510 atomizer on the protege to resize peoperly.

There is copyright in place for attys, at least. So, you need a design that isn't going to infringe.

Not to mention, any western based manufacturer looking to go into business would surely go to China or India for actual fabrication/production in order to get unit costs to a competitive level.

That was actually OK - when you click on the thumbnail it opens to full size. Thanks for the info!

I think the patent is still pending and most attys on the market are knock-offs themselves - very different from the original with the pending patent. The original was based on ultrasound vapor production, not a heating element.

Either way - electronics stores here should start carrying the batteries and the atomizers as electronics parts, then!
