Same substance on the sides of the Joye510's filler. It can be removed. I just use a toothpick and out it comes! Holds the filler in place-Don't know why they put it in there.

It's the same sort of substance that is put inside self-sealing jar lids. It is hypoallergenic, and it is food safe. It is a rubbery adhesive, if you will, to keep the filler wads from falling out of the cartridge during factory filling process.
