Just remove the cartridge, then touch the tip of a spoon against the battery connector and the little brass square near it at the same time. Hold that for 30 seconds or so. That will activate the atomizer and burn off any accumulated crud and residue.

Hey Leaf -

I just tried that - seemed to work pretty well and now back to plumes of vapour.... however, there is a bit of a funny taste to it now similar to when I first started using the pipe. Any idea what that might be? I hope it's not going to last - also the vapour seems to linger slightly more as if it's burning something... perhaps just because there's more of it!

I guess it's similar to a manual cleaning cycle so could explain the funny taste...

Anyway let me know if you get the chance would be most grateful!

Drip some flavor in to help it along

Ah, ha, maybe that's it. I always drip a few drops in afterwards, rewetting it immediatly. Then I pop in a fresh, not refilled, cartridge. In fact I think maybe I'll start making it a habit to give it a clean every time I replace the cartridge.

Aside from the nasty taste, I'm really interested to know whether this technique carried out say once a week, could extend the life of the atomiser? Or do you think there's more chance to burn the atomiser out this way?

Just interested, coz there's a lot of info on the forum regarding high voltage batteries being able to ressurect atomisers using exactly this technique ie. burning off the crud

Perhaps this could be the pipe's saving grace for not having a cheap separate replaceable atomiser.... :hubba:

Scrubadub, Shawn, you guys are probably right. I may be overdoing it. But I had a persistant recurring bad taste and NEEDED to do it every day for a while last week. So I've already done it a LOT, and I'm going to get a new atomizer as soon as you've got them up, so this one makes a good test bed. I'll keep doing it frequently, like whenever I change a cartridge, and we'll see how it goes.
