Bad practice? Hell no, as a former mod on a very high end fashion forum with over 200,000 members the new member rules here are awesome. The only rule we had for new members was a 15 post minimum for private messages. Let me tell you that as a mod it was a huge PITA. Especially since selling, advertising your own ebay auctions etc was ban worthy. We had to rely on the mods eagle eye or reported posts by other members in order to catch spammers who would join, spam, get banned, come back under a different nic, spam some more.

Not all forums are the same, some are more lax on the restrictions than others but the most important thing to remember is that the rules are set by the Admin of the respective forum.

I think it leads to thousands of useless and or uninformative posts. Who wants to read thousands of posts that someone posted as a newbie with no real knowledge to share?

So that we (the more experienced) can catch them, help them, lead them...Otherwise the new members forum would be filled with people complaining about their new $200 e-cig with no solution in sight.

Not everyone in the new members forum is a new member -- there's no rule that says veteran members (or PV masters:2cool:) can't hang out here and lend a hand.

One option would be not to read them.

It isn't the question that is important, but the responses. Some of the most knowledgeable members hang out here just to assist new members with their questions.

However, the new members forum is by far, the most active forum on all of ECF. Many times people get their questions answered without having to post somewhere else.

That's because every new member is forced to post here 5 times. I wonder how many useless/duplicates posts and misinformation that leads to each day..

I guess I don't understand why anyone has problems with it??? If you don't like the rules....don't join, but by far I have had more info and more help here than on any other e-cig forum. I love the new member posts.....so many great people giving GREAT and useful advice...even in the repeat questions...there are different people who answer with new and different input....I love it!

Elendil.....you all have done a GREAT job with this forum and for the most part have made it like a huge family...and we all know that every family has some of those black sheep:)
