Wow. i thought i was gonna have to cut off my hand... the tinkerer i am... i take apart my protege to see what the issue with the button is... it was acting funny.

So i look at the button and its REALLY crooked. so i tried to tweak it back and boom the prong on one side comes loose. i pocket everything and come home to work on it more...

i setup my soldering gun, get everything ready to go... start to tweak the button and begin to re-solder that one spot...

and i notice how jacked up the one side was soldered... the prong wasnt in the slot cut in the brass/copper piece... pull the brass peice out clean it up so i can get the wire in there, push it back in....

so i'm all set ready to throw a bit of solder on there and Snap! explosion... tiny parts everywhere... the gray part of the button popped off the tiny little contact ring in there is somewhere on the floor the rubber piece is gone.

after Tons of searching i find them. set them aside. re-solder the prong (if i couldn't do that right no point in putting it back together)..

after some tedious trial and error i Finally get that little punk back together.

and it works. WOOT

OK side note. I've found a way to make the button work better for me. i hated the fact that the button would have to be pushed in WAY more than flush. So to customize it... I've found to ways to make this work easily

1. (the way i ended with) Hyperglide mouse skate... had one laying around, perfect thickness to close the gap between the button inside and the aluminum top hat part of the exterior button. stick one of these:

Hyperglide Mouse Skates MX-2 - 8 Skates - Logitech MX 300 / G1 - FrozenCPU.com

right there. sticky side towards the aluminum top hat.

2. same idea get a mailing label, or any kind of sticker... use a regular paper hole puncher and make little circles, stick one at a time on the underside of the top hat (i used 4) then try it out to see if you like the button better.

viola!

now my button works even better then new.

I did a similar thing with my button. Didn't like having to mash it to activate the switch. I used a casino players card (same as credit card thickness) and used a hole punch. slipped that behind the button and perfect action now. Not too hard or soft. still carry protege in my pants pockets without activating, but alot easier to push the button.

PS: If you choose to try this, you do so at your own risk.

PS: PS: It really does work awesome though :D

Yea those little pieces are hard as he#* to get back together. If you try to realign the switch be very careful not to pry on the switch. It will come apart. Mine is in the mail as we speak because I started messing with it.

what a bummer did you loose the pieces? i can explain exactly how to put it back together successfully...

and i did not have ANY trouble soldering the post in there either... i got magic hands :p lol jk jk but you dont hold the soldering gun when you do that part :p hint hint

LMAO.. No I already sent it back.. I actually broke one of those little tabs that hold it all together.. I put it back together without the top two parts. I had only the blue thingy and the little ring in there and I put it all back together.. I went on using it because it was working pretty good actually. But if I were to take it apart I would surely loose those parts as they were just kinda in there... Nothing holding it all together...

Well that was Sunday. .. Monday I took it to work to show it off and the post office was closed anyway... So I went on using it.... BIG MISTAKE.... I had a hot pocket about 10:00 am... OUCH... So needless to say it went back to PS yesterday.

Thanks for the help though.. Much appreciated.

LOL. ok i'd rather get a little 3.7v shock ... wait i literally just took off the atty, put my finger on the end, pushed the button... No shock. TAKE YOUR ATTY OFF when pocketing?

<insert cool carrying case here...>

i can imagine a nice brushed metal outside finish with customizable innerds... just thick enough to fit the protege, and big enough for an extra battary 2 attys and (we need to find better bottles...) a bottle of juice that is no bigger in diameter than the protege...

must websurf for bottle... Found it http://www.specialtybottle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=246

now to find a case...
