Wow. i thought i was gonna have to cut off my hand... the tinkerer i am... i take apart my protege to see what the issue with the button is... it was acting funny.
So i look at the button and its REALLY crooked. so i tried to tweak it back and boom the prong on one side comes loose. i pocket everything and come home to work on it more...
i setup my soldering gun, get everything ready to go... start to tweak the button and begin to re-solder that one spot...
and i notice how jacked up the one side was soldered... the prong wasnt in the slot cut in the brass/copper piece... pull the brass peice out clean it up so i can get the wire in there, push it back in....
so i'm all set ready to throw a bit of solder on there and Snap! explosion... tiny parts everywhere... the gray part of the button popped off the tiny little contact ring in there is somewhere on the floor the rubber piece is gone.
after Tons of searching i find them. set them aside. re-solder the prong (if i couldn't do that right no point in putting it back together)..
after some tedious trial and error i Finally get that little punk back together.
and it works. WOOT
OK side note. I've found a way to make the button work better for me. i hated the fact that the button would have to be pushed in WAY more than flush. So to customize it... I've found to ways to make this work easily
1. (the way i ended with) Hyperglide mouse skate... had one laying around, perfect thickness to close the gap between the button inside and the aluminum top hat part of the exterior button. stick one of these:
Hyperglide Mouse Skates MX-2 - 8 Skates - Logitech MX 300 / G1 - FrozenCPU.com
right there. sticky side towards the aluminum top hat.
2. same idea get a mailing label, or any kind of sticker... use a regular paper hole puncher and make little circles, stick one at a time on the underside of the top hat (i used 4) then try it out to see if you like the button better.
viola!
now my button works even better then new.
