OMG You are all so great, THANKS! The advice/support is priceless! I'm sitting at the computer now with my pv and thinking I can do this. I won't put so much pressure on myself, I was actually doing better before I started that! Sometimes I think we can be our own worst enemy!

I Smoked for 15 years - Age 31 now. Wow ! Didn't realize i smoked for half my life! Scary! Been vaping for about a Month Now. I smoked maybe 5 cigs total since then. Now i can't even stand to smell them or the taste is not soo good. Vaporizing ...tastes soo much cleaner and better! In that Picture of me i would always smoke about 2 cigs while i cleaned all that DAMN Snow off my cars - Stop half way through- huff and puff! Take a break! or a few ! haha .. No more analogs for me! ever! Why couldn't of i been smarter enough to buy a ecig loooooong time ago ? better late then never though!!

Not many people know that tobacco has another psychoactive drug other than nicotine. It also contains an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor), which acts as an antidepressant. Smokers that are having difficulty switching to vaping might be experiencing cravings from the MAOI in tobacco, which isn't found in the e-liquid, which only contains nicotine.

If you are having trouble transitioning from cigarettes to vaping, you should slowly taper down your smoking over the course of a couple of weeks. Maybe replace 1 cigarette with vaping the first day, 2 the second day, and so forth until you are comfortable with vaping alone.

For some the transition to vaping can be easy, for some a little challenging, for some very challenging and for others just not do-able. I think that the hardest part for everyone is that you've got to train your brain to accept PV's and vaping as the new way to smoke.

There are over 4,000 chemicals in regular cigs and nicotine is not the only one that is addictive. Over the years the tobacco industry has put additional chemicals in cigs to keep people hooked and addicted besides just the nicotine. You've got to convince yourself (your brain) that even though you may be missing a few other chemicals that were addictive in cigs (the reason you still feel addicted to them) that you are getting the most addictive of all - nicotine - and you will do better.

Just tell yourself that you are no longer going to be controlled by big tobacco, high prices, smoke, nasty taste, smelly clothes, furniture, skin, hair, vehicles,. No more flames, no more butts, no more ashes and ashtrays, no more smokers cough, difficulty breathing and getting out of breath just getting dressed or taking a shower (how incredible is that!). You control you and nobody else can. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Basically what I was gonna say. Also, more emphasis on the "Your not an idiot part". I went a month vaping only, and failed. Now i'm back at it again. Its a process thats different for everyone.

I have everything I need to quite these cigs. The vaping was going good, but now because I "feel" like I shouldn't smoke, and move to only vaping it's like I want to smoke more! I keep making excuses like "well my higher nic juice will be here soon then I will start only vaping" The things is I really don't like the taste of smoking so I have to drink something or chew gum when I do it I don't like the way it makes me feel.

So goes the question "why am I an idiot!!:confused:

I know it's called addiction and I've smoked for 20 years blah blah blah but I thought this would be a piece of cake!

Quitting analogs is the most recent addictive thing I have quit and I have quit many starting with nail biting at 8 yrs old. I am actually a habitual quitter, but I have always been successful when I do quit something. The people I've known who try to really pressure themselves usually have the hardest time quitting things and then the continual disappointment in themselves compounds the difficulty of overcoming their addiction. I quit cigs by counting how many I had everyday and then the goal of not smoking during the hours I was at work. I went from 20 to 10 in the first week to 5 the next and then spent about a month at 3 a day and then went to bumming one once in a while.

One thing I noticed was that when I first went to no cigs I had a withdrawal, but I don't think it was the nicotine because I know I was getting enough, but I think it was the other chemicals. Just don't pressure yourself and try to achieve small goals and if takes you a while its not a big deal. The trying itself makes you stronger and when you start achieving your goals it gives you an incentive to to keep going. Good luck:)

The best advice I can give is to not worry about quitting tobacco. For many of us, the stress and panic associated with the thought of giving them up totally can set us up for failure. Rather, tell yourself that if you REALLY want a cigarette, you'll have one. But instead of immediately reaching for the cigarette, you'll first try to vape through the craving.

I held back some much higher nicotine liquids for just those occasions. When I felt the need for a cigarette, I'd spike my cartridge with a few drops of the super high stuff, and it really seemed to help.

But whatever you do, don't beat yourself up. For some, the transition seems to occur almost magically. For others, the road may be a little bit longer and might have a few more bumps along the way. Please don't forget to celebrate the fact that you've managed to significantly decrease your tobacco intake. That's no small accomplishment. :wub:

Agreed...I decided I wasn't going to stress myself out this time while trying to quit. In the first week I completely stopped smoking at work. Now it seems the only time I'm really tempted is later at night...which surprised me...i thought I'd be bugging more in the morning. I've gone from two packs a day to maybe one cigarette a day and about a pack on the weekend. **FIND A E-LIQUID THAT YOU REALLY WANT TO VAPE** I have found it much easier to not bug over a cigarette since I found a vape that I love. I also don't get down on myself if I cave either. If I want a pack...I buy a pack and don't feel bad about it. I've been vaping since October 2009 and am still working on being completely smoke free, but not stressing about it. They say that the more you try not to think about something the more you do...don't stress yourself out.

For some people, me for one, nicotine is not the only thing we need from tobacco. There is an "X factor" that e-cigs alone do not take care of. Read the threads in the smokeless tobacco forums (I've been getting a big education in neuropharmacolofy there - these guys are smart) and the thread "Nicotine - are we getting it" I think that is what it is called. It is a huge thread with tons of information.

When you find the right mix of e-cig,. nic, and whatever else you may need, analogs will go away. Don't pressure yourself to give up analogs, you'll do it when you do it. And don't think of yourself as a falure - or an idiot - because you haven't quit with e-cigs alone. Not all of us can.
