Why am I getting advertisement popups periodically?

It happened when I got here a bit ago and then again when I went from one thread to another.

It was for a free ecig. Which is a nice offer so I went for it--can always give it to friend.
I filled out the info and decided no when it required a CC for shipping. I didn't complete the thing but still got a call from these people!!!

check your browser. you may have installed an addon that integrates targeted pop up advertising. ECF's ads are not popups -- we use banner ads in the places we have ads.

Okay talking to a dummy here. How do I do that?

check your installed extensions, plugins and addons . these type of ad things can be installed as part of the terms of use of freeware games and applications. You can also check in add/remove programs (sometimes they don't show up in your browser extensions)
