I really don't know except they are popular. If you notice how most of them are made it is just a hollow tube of metal with some basic small wring with a small switch. How much could this cost to make. There are a couple that come with a battery but if you buy an extra battery it cost 22.99. One of the advantage of a mod is to have a longer lasting battery. The 3.7 volt does not give any more vapor that a regular ecig the battery just last longer. I'm not sure about the 5-6 volts although I have ordered one. I hope it give more vapor and a better throat hit but I'm not sure this will happen. Some offer a personalized paint jobs and some are suppose to have brass on them but lets face it they are very overpriced.

The highlighted text above is not necessarily true. As has been noted elsewhere, the Joye 510 standard batteries don't actually put out 3.7V, so a 3.7V "mod" probably will give you a different vaping experience.

As to why they cost as much as they so? They are not mass-produced in China. And that in itself makes all of the difference in the world.

i don't sell what i make, but i'm pretty sure that those who do are either hand-making them or hand-assembly, or both. are they expensive to make? no. are they time consuming? yes.

And time is money! If I was making Mods I'd factor in my time, that's for sure. And my time ain't cheap ;)

the price is what the market pays. I agree the prices are a bit off the wall, especially with all the problems ppl have encountered with them. they're not the technical marvels that the suppliers cliam if they are firing off by themselves, etc.

that said, some ppl will pay any amount just to add to their collection. others won't. Until ppl quit paying those amounts, the price will remain ridiculously high for what they are.

They may not be that expensive to make, but it does cost some money. On top of that there is the time spent to make them. Also, you may be paying for R and D, not just production. Lots of time goes into designing, testing and refining these mods, and problem solving when things don't go as planned. And as doots said, there are other costs as well.

This high cost put me off buying a mod for months, but now that I have one I see how completely worth it it was. I will never use a 3.7 v battery again if I can help it.
