Why are there so many hipster/douche types in the vape community?

I think I am too many decades past the right age to be a hipster. I also don't have an asymmetric haircut, nor wear old school sneakers.
But I do have aesthetic tastes and a liberal arts degree, so who knows......

First, you'll want to read the "right" books. Here is a list:
Amazon.com: The Hippest Hipster Books of All Time

Then peruse some photos:

How many hipster/douche types does it take to screw in a light bulb?

My top ten list:

10. It's this really obscure number, you've probably never heard of it.
9. Hipster lights don't burn out, they sell out.
8. Ha, real hipsters use candelabras.
8a. Candelabras are so last week. They use compost-powered LEDs now.
7. If you have to ask, that just proves how much more hipster I am than you.
6. Three. One to change it and the other two stand around and talk about how much better the old one was.
5. However many it takes...but honestly, I'm a fan of Edison's earlier work.
4. Two. One to change it in an ironic fashion and one to get it.
3. Who can tell through these fake hornrims and manicured scruff?
2. At least 5 to scrape enough change together to buy the light bulb in the first place.

And the number one reason ...

1. (Snotily) You mean you don’t knooooow?

I was at vapercon this weekend. It was my first experience at a vape convention. What I noticed was not hipster. It was more grungy alternative. Lots of ear plugs and tattoos. The rest were just everyday people. Another thing I noticed was the attitudes floating around. Everyone had a really good attitude. Very helpful and friendly.
At my two local B&M shops I do see Asian hipster. That's probably not the most PC term but I care not. The shops are very poorly informed rip off shacks. One tried to sell me a Nemesis for $320. Told me that's what they go for even though I had one in my hand. The other shop told the guy he was talking to on the phone they didn't carry ecigs. All they sell are mods. They are very unwelcoming and cliquey.

I have to agree with the OP. First, let me qualify myself. I am Old and don't listen to any music recorded after 1968 (still have my vinyl copies). I stopped by a vape meet at a local chain restaurant and occasionally go by the B&M's here and even though there are exceptions, I find most of the patrons to be 20 somethings, long unkept hair, and covered with tatoos. They kind of remind me of "wantabee" hippies from the 1960's but just aren't sure how to pull it off. I am a firm believer that you have a right to be whatever you want to be but before I left the "working world" I was in charge of hiring decisions for my company. Some of these people, just based on appearance, would not have had any chance of a callback. Most here may think me as unreasonable and judgemental, but at least for a few more years it will be old farts like me that hand out the jobs.

Just started vaping a week ago, obviously trying to quit smoking cigs, of around 25 years no less. And really just am noticing there seems to be a giant community of some weird ... Douchy people associated with ecigs....Why?

I don't judge or I would not respond to this post. To each his or her own. After years of being judged for smoking cigs life is to short to be a hater. Good luck.
