45 year smoker, up to 2-3 packs a day = Throat Cancer! Had cut down to about 1 1/2 packs a day, then after radiation treatment, I chose the nic gum to try to quit.
Cancer can be a (great?) motivater, managed to stay off analogs - however, heavily addicted to nic. Doc said I could chew the gum for the rest of my life, wouldn't hurt me - just NO MORE SMOKE!
Well, four years of chewing boxes and boxes of nic gum (cost about same as analogs), I managed to pull out just about every filling from my teeth.
Couldn't see putting new fillings in to only be pulled out again with the gum. I just took extra care (brushing, flossing, toothpicks etc), plus the gum did a good job of stopping any buildup.
Finally decided to check out e-cigs. If they could do a good job of my nic addiction, then I would switch - do away with the gum - finally go help some dentist put his kid through college.
Fairly new to ecigs, but seem to be doing the job - I can finally enjoy a cup (or 2/3) of coffee with a cig (e-cig). Couldn't do that with nic gum - always led to sores (same with chocolate). Plus, I will admit - I liked smoking (not the smell, mess, etc).
Too early to tell, but I think that e-cigs will do the trick for me (and my teeth).
