ECF has a doctors forum but regular members cannot even access it to read the posts. I don't understand the reason for this and think it's wrong.

I look at it this way. Doctors aren't talking about their golf game. They are here to talk about e-cigs. All vapers can benefit from doctors opinions about e-cigs so we all should at least be allowed to read the messages. I can understand not being able to reply cus we aren't doctors.. but to not even be able to learn from them is just dead wrong IMO.

If there is a really good reason for this silly policy I'd surely like to know it.

I guessed as much already. That really doesn't answer the intent of my question. I'll try again. What's the rational behind catering to the medical profession with a members only forum on an e-cig forum?

Why not have a forum for secretaries or sanitation workers or shoe salesman? That's two questions I'd like answered please.

Because those professions have absolutely nothing to do with health topics about electronic cigarettes? Kind of a silly question, but you already knew that.

We're not "catering" to anyone. We gave them a private forum so they could discuss e-cig related health topics among themselves before addressing them in the public forums.

I don't get exactly why you'd be upset over this forum, unless it's just because it's one you can't read? I hate to break it to you, but there are at least 30 more that you can't even see.

Well, IMHO, medical professionals often have a large influence on government policy - hence, no forum for secretaries or sanitation workers, as their influence is minimal.
Secondly, I think a protected forum for the medical profession to discuss the posts they see here amongst themselves is a good thing. It saves their attention being diverted by half-baked or half-assed or ill-informed opinions from the less knowledgeable among us, or those who might be more forward in their own opinions to the detriment of courteous and rational conversation.

That said, it wouldn't hurt for the mods/site admins to unlock some of those professional's posts to the general population.

There is no need. Once they've discussed matters amongst themselves, they usually go into the Health forum and discuss them with everyone else.

As Angus said, there are many boards here you can't see. In fact the only reason you can see it at all is because otherwise the medics on ECF would not know it is there for them. They don't advertise the fact they are medics because that would be unwise.

That reminds me - I have about 10 doctors to sort out...

You might be interested in the private boards for Masons, Pharma industry reps, FBI officers, and similar groups. Everybody comes here to let their hair down. Just prove you qualify and we can talk.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not upset.. I Did think we should be able to read it. I'd kinda like to know what discussions doctors have concerning my health choices are about. What the pros and cons of those discussions are before we hear the end result. I think that's important to people.

Ya know doctors and other "health professionals" get a say in helping shape health policy all the time. It has been my experience that doctors do not always know what is best for the public. They are taught very little true healing cures through nutrition. Heck they cannot even tell you such and such natural remedy will cure you even if it's true. Most of the supplies they use in medical schools are paid for by the pharmaceutical industry and they are taught a form of 'medicine' that is heavily slanted towards only healing with drugs. Many doctors will tell you this is not true but look at how they act. When you go to a doctor very few of them take a detailed history of the persons diet and try to find ways to cure the person with diet and nutrition - but that's the natural way a body wants to be healed. Instead they look at the symptoms and prescribe drugs to treat those symptoms let alone actually cure the ailment. In fact drugs should always be any doctors Last line of treatment.

I have studied health and nutrition for years from the viewpoint of nutrition and diet giving the body the tools it needs to heal and cure. I don't see the doctors doing these things and yet they take an oath to " at least do no harm" when many times the drugs cause harm and toxic situations to arise in the body. Many doctors have seen the light and are now getting away from this medieval training that is akin to bloodletting. But not all are the good ones and they are way too few. I do distrust doctors behind closed doors as a rule. I believe I have that right to be mistrustful. I just want to encourage more open discussion in a public forum from doctors. Not knowing what they discuss behind my back is a little unsettling.
