Why did I spend $11 on this cotton?

Have tried just about all the different wicking media available, with exception of ceramic, since I started vaping. Eventually, tried cotton during the early summer of last year.

Having going through a pile of various cotton wicking media options, KGD has performed the best for me. It's clean tasting and more importantly, it's a sponge that will keep up with my method of vaping.

That's what I use but I was wondering if someone has used both the cotton bacon and the KGD and if there is a major difference.

I have both. KGD is far better IMO. Cotton bacon doesn't seem much different to me than organic cotton balls other than it is already straightened. I was using rayon for several months, but so far, I think I like KGD the best overall. Flavor is about the same as rayon, but it seems to wick better.

Ok, I am a huge Rayon fan. I have read plenty of posts praising KGD. I've never tried it, so why not give it a go. Got a link where I can purchase some?

Jax, I got mine here. Took a couple weeks to come in, though it may be in stock now:

Koh Gen Do Organic Cotton Pads at DermStore

And as far as hype goes, Az, everyone has different tastes and use cases. The guy who mentioned rayon not keeping up with .3, .4 ohm builds mirrors my experience. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, who knows. What I do know is the KGD works perfectly for me and I've settled on it for the long haul. Again, $12 for likely 2 years worth of wick? Not the same value as 500' of rayon but we're splitting pennies at that point.

Yep sounds like you bought into the hype. Do you need any fluval, blue foam, tea bags or poly filler?

I guess you need to be from the old school to realize how hilarious this post is! LOL! :toast:

I had some major "fun" with tea bags back in the day LMFAO

Thanks for the link todd!

Personally I always vape at .34Ω and never have any issues whatsoever with rayon keeping up. Maybe it's the way that I wick with it. It is different than cotton in that it shrinks instead of swells like cotton does. With cotton, less is more. Not so with rayon. I put it in there pretty damn tight compared to cotton. You'll know you have enough when you hear it make a kind of "squeak" like sound.

I am typically on a .16-.2 build and the rayon doesnt keep up.

I've yet to go under .32 so when I do, I guess I'll find out. By then, I'll have some KGD though.

I think you will realize the kgd is going to wick much faster when your lower than .32 I think the flavor is dam good with rayon though and it does saturate and hold up much better than the cotton.

well, there's the issue.

just split in half, cut a strip as wide as your coil, and use as is. dont just use the middle section, dont roll or twist it up.

you're ending up with way too much cotton...and you're using the fluffy, less directional, more cottonball-ish portion of the pads.

Can you speak a little more to that point? I've seen several videos where people do just that with their Japanese cotton, and I was under the impression that there's something funky with the other layers.

I've tried my Shiseido and the KGD both ways. I think it's marginally better if I don't use the outermost layers but it's splitting hairs and basically wasting decent material at that point. Those outer layers tend to be a bit stiffer than the middle too so it can make wicking small things like protanks a little easier, for what it's worth.

there's nothing wrong with the outer layers. I'm just speculating, but the dense directional weave (I suppose that's what it would be called) is what differentiates these cotton pads from regular cotton balls. If you're removing these layers and just using the more fluffy middle portion, you're not gaining much over cotton balls.

I just split the whole thing in half and cut. easy.

Just FYI, there's nothing wrong with the ends of the squares if you mean health wise. I like saving them for my KFL. Sally's has Graham's Cullucotton just make sure you get the #44043, there's almost identical boxes that have a different number that are cotton, not rayon.

Rayon and KGD both do a great job though I personally prefer KGD.

I tried rayon and didn't care for it. I have been using Rite Aid Renewal All Natural Premium cotton squares. They are in bleached. 100% pure cotton made in Japan. I don't know how it compares to KO Gen Do or any other Japanese pads. These come as pads of long fibers alined then wrapped in an outter cotton lint free layer. It wicks great and taste great. I don't get the cotton taste I use to get from Other cotton. 80 pads cost 6.99. If anybody has tried them and KO gen do or anything else that could compare. I'm sure it could help someone. I'm sold on these. Right now. I see no need for me to go try anything else.

Labo is another brand of organic/untreated japanese pads to check out. pretty good value ~ 200 for 13 bucks or so.

I dont see much difference between Labo and KGD.

I just ordered some of that, though I got the large pads. It's supposed to be similar to KGD. I went with Labo because I couldn't get myself to pay $12 in shipping fees for a $12 product (ordering off KGD's web site, which is the only place you can get KGD right now).
